I have not been to other arenas, but have been to Carver, and I think it is perfectly fine. I don't see anything at all wrong with it.
I agree that the practice facility (or lack thereof) doesn't help, and an empty arena with a dead game-atmosphere doesn't help to entice recruits, either. But start winning again, and the fans will come back. I can't comment on the stength program.
But I have to lay the recruiting blame primarily at the feet of the current coaching staff. Alford had the same disadvantages in 2006 that Lickliter has now, and players signed for what would have been his 9th year (Gatens, Hamga, Gary) if he would have stuck around, than what Lickliter has been bringing in so far.
What did Alford have that Lickliter doesn't?
