The Alford Stuff

That was a rumor started during halftime of one of the Iowa football games. No truth to it, just an example of how hated Alford was. People wanted it to be true but it wasn't.

i was wondering this. i'll take it down then. the guy i heard it from HATES alford, so that makes sense.

The Pierce thing did happen and Pierce did in fact rape that girl. They had dated in the past and let's just say he did something she didn't want to do and he didn't stop. There were other players outside the room when this happened. She played basketball for Iowa and left school soon after that. There was a very cool relationship between the Iowa men's program and the woman's program after that time. Especially when Pierce was allowed to stay on the team.

Alford also knew about Pierce driving to Des Moines the night before the home Indiana game when he harassed the girl he used to see. Alford let him play anyway.

He's really a very immoral person who uses religion as a front. He only cares about himself and his bank account. The guy never gave a crap about any of his coaching stops. He was always looking for the next best thing.

I've been told that Pierce had a similar incident in high school that Alford did a very good job of making sure stayed secret. Had people to keep an eye on Pierce on the weekends because he was the type to drive around trolling for the drunkest girl he could find. Alford knew exactly what kind of person Pierce was, and what he was capable of. And, knowing all of that BEFORE the rape, he allowed him back on the team after it happened.

Why can't you guys put the details on here? It's not like he is coaching here anymore so we are not smearing anyone that works or plays for Iowa.

Cause most of it is mad by butthurt hawk fans who jus didn't like him cause he didn't win enough.

I didn't like him because after the horner-brunner class he couldn't seem to bring in any kid who could qualify, play high level ball, and stick around.

I think it's pretty simple really. Had Alford been able to get guys into school, he would have had better players and his coaching gaffs would have been masked by talent. At Iowa, he couldn't get those guys in and never developed the recruiting pipeline into Indiana that he touted upon getting hired. At UNM, he got everybody in, used Hoiberg's strategy to land transfer, juco guys vs. rebuilding and had the advantage of a weak conference. I have to laugh when I read posts about "Iowa being a training ground for Alford", because it wasn't. He realized he couldn't handle it and bailed.

Look back it wasn't just then, he had less than 10 freshmen complete their eligibility while at Iowa. He got lucky on a JUCO in Evans and a gift fell in his lap in Recker.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Alford signed multiple guys to LOI's when they hadn't come remotely close to qualifying, then hurried to sign guys in the Spring when it dawned upon him that they would not get in school.

Did you ever wonder why a guy like Josh Crawford was ever brought to Iowa?

When it comes down to it, Alford did not respect Iowa, period. He viewed Iowa as an inferior program and I think his comments since leaving Iowa have made it clear. I also think Alford thought the Iowa was were ignorant and would just overlook his defense of a rapist. Every move that Alford made during his tenure at Iowa tells me he had zero respect for the University of Iowa and its fans and was only there to win games at all costs. Iowa is not a place that appreciates or likes coaches and in a lot of cases players, that have that mentality.

Alford going to UCLA is perfect justice, if he couldn't handle criticism at Iowa then I wish him luck at UCLA. The Alford chapter is now closed for me, I am excited to see the chronic Crotch Itch and Seth Davis defend their friend and rape supporter with that fanbase.

Bilas and Vitale both think the deal stinks. They claim that UCLA didn't ask for permission to talk to Alford, and they criticized Alford for just signing a 10 year deal saying this is the place I want to be, and then turn around go to UCLA. They were concerned about the integrity of a University president not being upfront with the steal. Vitale said that NM should have had a clause that he could not coach anywhere else and have to stay for 10 years. He would not receive permission to leave.....

No certain if that is possible in today's legal cutthroat atmosphere.....

Kind of a slap in the face to NM by both Alford and UCLA.....

Going to cost them a king's ransom when they want to get rid of Alford and it is coming.....

He is going to miss Craig Neal who stayed to coach at New Mexico.....

:)

who's saying they don't care about Alford. i think the guy is a sleeze ball. i love to see him fail.

I didn't like him because he punished a rapist by giving him a redshirt year.

I heard Alford was in the legislature that passed the laws that let the kid walk free in the first instance. Good Lord people, at some point you have to blame the elected officials and court system that let the kid walk. But oh no, Alford didn't punish him enough. Give it a rest, you proles know good and darned well that had Pierce stuck around and led us to a deep tournament run all would have been forgiven in your minds. Having criminals on your team is only a "problem" when the teams fail to live up to overly lofty expectations.
