Swiss soccer players with NCAA eligibility?

It's just an antiquated rule based on gamesmanship that they never got rid of. People say it discourages laziness by players camping out near the goals; I say it encourages lazy defense.

It'd be better to just get rid of the forward pass then. That would at least stop most of the "all else fails" kicks that make it so tedious to watch. Those kicks are 50/50 propositions and then you're back to the random, back and forth free-for-all that puts people to sleep.

It's like a lottery ball machine with one ball in it.

You clearly don't understand the rule..........

You're only offside from where the ball was last touched not received. Think post pattern taking the top off the d and making space between the safety and the wide out and being wide open.

Then I've seen some bad officiating. I've watched numerous scoring opps called back because the offensive player got out in front before the ball. Is it called differently in youth soccer? Again, explain it to me like a new soccer player.... and take it to another level...what's the point of the rule? How does it improve the game?

I should hate soccer. This is about what happened to me. Darned Russians. The guy was on my shin and I was kneeling....backwards.

McGahee had a lot of balls to turn down that multi-million dollar insurance policy and enter the draft. He made it work but I can't say I'd be that sure of myself.

However the guy has 10 kids and 8 baby mamas, so maybe he was destined to be completely fucked in life either way.

Muppet...cute. I mistook you for a guy who wanted to impart some good info about a sport he loved...not just another snarky asshole. My mistake.

Those vids are beautiful soccer plays, in the first the striker in the middle cleverly used the side defender to keep himself onside. Great play. But often...it just seems to harness the game. I'm a soccer moron...fine...but why not let a guy get the step on his defender and fast break? i know...the "purity" of the game. Millions of us... will never get it

First off I don't love soccer I hardly watch it (usually around every 4 years), but I at least understand the rules. (Usually after the first time they are explained.......)

Just because the game doesn't fit the way you want it played, doesn't make it wrong.

There's more to @pythagoras than snarky assholishness. He's a compulsive liar who's been caught in the act and he gets extremely, dare I say, triggered (I know you hate that term) when people throw the same trolling back in his face.

Just watch what happens next when he reads this...

Didn't say that, I'm just curious about the underlying rationale behind the offside call. Why does it make the game better? ...or is it an outdated rule as some have suggested. Inquiring minds...

It would sort of be like starting a football play with the WR lined up behind the D.

Your image is a Muppet lol. That's the whole idea behind offsides is having the passer be on the same page as the person making the run, it's all about timing. Then they get a step on their defender and "fast break" right as the ball is passed. The defense can also do an offside trap where they all move up simultaneously and catch a runner offside.

Having no offsides wouldn't increase scores as you think it would, if a team put two players at the 18 yard box, there would be 4 defenders between them and the goal with another 2-3 in front to close passing lanes. The mid field would be nearly empty and one of the most exciting parts of the game - the counter attack wouldn't exist. Teams wouldn't bring up their defensive lines. It would be a midfield dribble/race fest with long passes that would be easily broken up.

Having low scores is what makes it so exciting. Knowing that one moment where a single goal can win or lose a championship and it can happen in an instant is what's so awesome.

The USA Women VS Brazil in 2011 is probably one of the best games in any sport I've ever seen.

This was pretty crazy too:

Yep I'm lying and triggered about understanding offside rules. Aren't you late to pay an umpire $10 for the evening

Why is a eurowimp sport being mentioned on a Hawkeye football forum? This is blasphemy, save our children, save America end soccer in America now. Yes, I hate soccer.

I know right. I spent too much of my time reading and commenting on this thread myself. Ugh.. Haha

Good thing you read it then.....
Hardee’s must close at noon? Or did you have to go get your EBT card refilled? The least you could do is thank us taxpayers on the board for keeping your double-wide stocked up with FunYuns.

I have an extra ticket to the Maryland game if you want to check out a live one this year, but you have to pay for it. I’m not into charity for lazy folk.
