Swiss soccer players with NCAA eligibility?

This thread - I can't even... Don't even know how to respond to these posts. Remove the goalie? Soccer isn't physical? LOL

In many US rec leauges and moving to HS, the physical contact is being remove from soccer. Taught and applied correctly, you can send an opponent into the next county legally.

Having played baseball, football, basketball and soccer, one sport stands out on difficulty, need for agility and endurance, intelligence, and total amount of physical contact in a game.

There is only one of those sports you really can't play with a belly.

Yes, just like arena football lets create arena soccer because we have 10 second attention spans! I think baseball is boring AF to watch but I don't think they should put lions on 2nd base or have cars driving in the outfield
I'm just trying to help the sport out. I doubt those suggestions I threw out there would get me into it either. But what it currently is is beyond boring and it's just not going to attract the fan base or athletic base that they want as it sits now. It's just not. How else does one rationalize the USA of over 350 million folks not being able to put a team of players good enough to compete in this tourney out there? We destroy the world in the Olympics and many other sports but not that one... Hmmm.. Because most of us here don't prioritize it very high if at all after 5th grade for their kids. Too many more fun sports and activities to get into. It's a time killer for soccer moms to go catch up on their drama with other soccer moms while their kids run around out there tiring themselves out so they'll go to bed before 9. That's about it

Soccer isn't remotely physical compared to hockey or football... Basketball you could make an argument on but even that I'd debate it...

soccer isn't remotely physical compared to hockey or football You've never played then.

Actually indoor soccer is played without the offside rule. You can set someone up to score upfront, but it is like leaving a player on the O basket in B Ball.

The reason it hasn't caught on is due to TV advertising methods. No commercial breaks.

You wouldn't have like Nolan Ryan I guess.

Baseball and football are watched because about every kid can throw a ball, walk or occasionally make a catch and dreamed about playing big someday.

Soccer is the hardest main world wide sport to be good at.

No sport is as intense as soccer. There are reasons why there are so many riots about it. Riots in the US are drunk fat fans of other sports.

You should watch Europeans watch baseball or football. Bores them stiff.
The reason Euros get bored of baseball and football is because there's an amount of understanding to it that it takes. If you don't understand the basic rules/concepts of it of course their lack of understanding will bore them. Soccer takes NONE of that. Run that way and then that way chasing the ball and try to kick/head but it in the net. There's so little comprehension or strategy to it a blind guy could follow it on the radio as well as a guy that can see can watching it live.

To say what you are saying about strategy, you are showing your ignorance. Like saying go tackle the guy with the ball.

I've never played pro anything before. My lack of experience doesn't discount the obvious.... Hockey and football are so much more of a physical game. It's not even comparable and I'm surprised someone would waste the internet ink it takes to debate it.

Like you? what happens is that someone takes a crack at soccer fans and then gaslights like the soccer fans brought it up.

One of my kids played HS fb, bb, and soccer at what would be 4A in Iowa. With twp pf those sports he'd go out with buddies after the game. With one he'd come home and go to bed exhausted. In BB he played against a number of Big starters. No comparison.

Baseball and football are watched because about every kid can throw a ball, walk or occasionally make a catch and dreamed about playing big someday. Sure, sports are like movies and music...people enjoy them to a great degree because of how they relate to them. That's also why soccer is popular in so much of the world...anybody can afford a ball and an open field. It's accessible to even the poorest of cultures. That's not bad or good...it's just true.

Soccer is the hardest main world wide sport to be good at.
Only because it uses the feet primarily, and not hands. One could suggest the same thing about hockey because first, you have to be world class skater before you can even dream of playing in the bigs.

No sport is as intense as soccer. There are reasons why there are so many riots about it. Riots in the US are drunk fat fans of other sports. The riots are caused by the intensity of the sport? Please....

Yes, to each his own. But soccer is a lot like golf... it's easy to fall asleep in front of the tube if you're not deeply interested in every little nuance.

My wife is like that with most sports. However do to other things that interest me ore than really long and often time outs, I usually concede.:D

Soccer thread... about time we got one of these going again. [sits back with feet up on desk ready for the flame war to start]

Listen to all those sports on the radio. That's how I got into sports I rarely got to watch much tv as a kid. Listening to games from good announcers and color guys I feel teaches you more about the game. I tried listening to soccer and watching... Watching grass grow and paint dry is a better use of my time.

Just for fun, what would basketball be like with the offsides rule like it is in soccer? :)

Soccer and hockey should both eliminate the goalie position and they'd actually be watchable. Yes I'm serious, and yes l understand the rules of both games.

The reason those two sports are so mind-numbingly boring is because scoring is so difficult. There's no balance between difficulty and action of the game. Would anyone watch basketball if there was a guy sitting on the back of the rim swatting every shot away? F no...but basketball still has exciting defense by regular players, and it's not so lopsidedly unfair as to prevent scoring.

Soccer and hockey could do the same thing. Let defenders play defense. You'd obviously have higher scoring games, but it wouldn't be so ridiculously monotonous. How many times in a soccer match do you see the ball go back and forth for ten minutes like a beach ball at a Grateful Dead concert, only to get stuffed and then it's back to crowd beach ball time?

I'd watch the shit out of a soccer match or hockey game that didn't have goalies and scored every minute or two. The defense would be way more urgent without a goaltender to fall back on, the action faster, and scoring would be so much more fun to watch.

For you soccer nerds out there, I will give in and say I like your running clock. Props.

There is/was 3 on 3 soccer at the youth level back in the day when my kids were young. Definitely more scoring ...

You just described football and baseball. Maybe the DJ PM game.

Played all sports. From a player perspective soccer bu far has the most action. If I played an early afternoon match I couldnt sleep that night due to adrenaline. One mistake and you can lose. Highly intense. TV of soccer shows most of the field as each position is pivotal. For those used to other sports that zoom in all the ball I can see why the dislike if you dont understand. The other sports are filmed for lazy viewng.

If you really wasnt to evaluate a basketball player you need to see the whole court. Watch the whole court and you will see why Iowa was terrible last year. It does begin at the top on D.

For those who think baseball is boring, you described the same reason. Pitch sequence, defense moving pitch to pitch, and late game strategy can be fascinating. For example, if Arkansas catches this ball, they win the College WS. However, it drops, and Oregon State rallies to win the game and send it to a deciding game tonight.

Um ok. So running around makes him tired. Based on your argument track guys/marathon runners are the most physical or swimmers. I meant physical as in the pounding one takes in hockey and football. I wasn't comparing them as in which sport wears you out the most. You have to be able to hit and take hits in those other sports along with having the wind to do it. Not to mention the mental side of them. I may be in the minority as far as the world goes but not right where I grew up...

You assumed tired. He was far more beat up in soccer, but he was the area large school leading scorer until the concussion late in the year and was a target.

And yes he is one tough kid.

Different countries play the game differently.

British - Up the middle and don't pass to anyone not British
German - Tacticians and don't pass to anyone not German
Central and South Americans don't pass to anyone and act like you are a murderer if you have body contact
Chinese - Throwins are like they drive
East Europeans - Take no prisoners and Americans are wimps and not to be trusted with the ball. Rules?
Turks - Take no prisoners but are great to be on a team with. Just don't play against them.

For the record, guys...

I don’t give two flying fucks if you like soccer...knock yourselves out if it’s your thing. I’m not saying you should or shouldn’t watch soccer or baseball or football or curling.

All I said was that I think it’s a ridiculous sport just like you think baseball sucks (which is my favorite sport). And that's okay.

My suggestion about shit-canning goalies is just my idea of what would make it watchable. You want to watch a bunch of third-world middle distance runners kick a ball back and forth in a pasture for an hour and a half, dropping like gunshot victims every time someone gets within 3 feet of them and eventually ending (thank god) in a score of 0-0 then go for it.

You enjoy your stupidity and I’ll enjoy mine. We won’t change each other’s minds.

Now that I made all you soccer hipsters “uber” pissed, let’s hear you get all butthurt and yell at me about how fat and uneducated and Americanish I am. :) I promise I won’t get offended but at least put some effort into it and make it funny. Unlike @proudhawkfan21
