Steve Sipple outraged at losing to "ordinary" Iowa

Well, we don't want them to see the light, so to speak. The Shatel article was right on. You can't play one week against a top team then coast to victory against Kansas the next in the B10. Certainly Purdue, Maryland, Rutgers, and Illinois are struggling right now, but look at the other 10 teams in the B10. There is no easy out...and it's physical. I'm convinced that after you play Iowa, for example, that affects you for a few weeks. Playing Michigan the week before no doubt affected us against Illinois...that's what Nebraska has struggled with for the past several years. They played Wisconsin tough, then get 62 hung on them from OSU the next week.

I'm not saying the fan base gets the B10 yet, but if their beat writers are starting to understand it, in a few years most of their fan base will too. Ok, its Nebraska, it may take their fan base like 5-7 years. Once delusion gets a grip on you, it's hard to shake...I mean, geez, they haven't won a championship in football in 17 years, yet act like they have a great program.

Much better article about the realities that Nebraska faces. That fan base is so far deluded, they need a slap of reality.

Not bad by Shatel. He's actually one of the better ones in Omaha. The comments though....lolololol.

"We need to recruit a "real QB" like Frazier, Crouch, etc". Yeah, I would love to see them try to run the triple option with quarterbacks that couldn't throw but 10 times a game, and when they did it was wide open. Please, bring those 'Real' QB's into Riley's system....

Another thought to expand on the above....they better Hope and Pray they get one of these solid(yes, they are solid) QB recruits pan out, cause they are trying to build a PAC12 offense, and if they don't get Great QB play, they are gonna be CRYING for a mostly RB/QB like Armstrong. They are recruiting pretty damnn good at WR, but they better start developing O and D lines....

They all forget a few very key pieces, Oline and Dline hasn't been elite in 15+years, win THAT is what won them those championships in the 90's.....oh, and being able to bring in 100 walkons and just pick the ones that panned out....oh, and they had to beat about 1 good team per year in the Big 8 and Big 12 North to win 10 make the conference championship game(many years they didn't need to beat anyone until they played Oklahoma or Texas...and when they did...Orange Bowl, NC shot).

They are still good, with outstanding tradition(they can live on that for years/decades still...but the clock is ticking).

We all agree that overall this was a seemingly disappointing Iowa seaon overall (with a redeeming finish) with a one dimensional offense but a solid defense (barring 2 games).....and we destroyed them. I'll give them that a fully healthy Armstrong likely tightens the game(those legs won them a few games....so...tough to stay healthy (right CJ?)). Doesn't change the fact our one dimensional offense abused their defense...even with Davis :)

F Nebby and their entitled fans. Michigan is "Back", OSU is OSU, Wisconsin has become what Iowa aspires to, PSU is getting back to very good(faster than I thought). Iowa is still a tough game for most(usually) and can still take that step(please), and you can have an upstart or 2 from the rest from year to year. B1G might be the best top to bottom league in the country this year (I'd put our top 7 against anyone's overall, and outside of Rutgers, Illinois, Purdue, our bottom 7 could hold their own)

God, I could hold my own against any nebby delusionist(not a word), cause living here I know them better than most of them do. They are so far away from what the think they should be it's not even funny, and they don't even know it. They are effectively THE EXACT SAME team they were last year, they simply won the close ones they didn't last year. Their best win this year was a .500 Minnesota team.....

Sorry for the rant all.

F'em

Go Hawks.

Sipple should be more pizzed and upset that nobody outside of Lincoln, NE knows who he is, about as irrelevant as NE football. Maybe he was the bomb back in 1985, who knows!

Actually that was a pretty fair article by a Red Homer. I don't know if it was in the same one or one of the writers Shattel or Shatlein that did the last 20 years regarding stats of these two programs...where, SHOCKER, they admitted that they were on shaky ground calling the Nebraska program better than Iowa's because the facts didn't back it up. But of course Hawk fans know this.

Fridays win was satisfying on so many levels… Which I would include the crow that Nebraska AD Shawn Eichorst must be eating right now for his comment a couple years ago about comparing the state of the two programs. In my eyes, that was the best part of the win on Friday; perhaps that's just my pride for the school/state/football team.

The Hawks thoroughly dominated Nebby, and (since they joined the B1G) have evened the series, 3-3.

Nebraska fans are almost as delusional as Clone fans. At least their fantasies are rooted in something in the past that actually happened.

Good point. We'd be 4-2 without the epic meltdown. We need to keep the mojo going in coming years.

Since 2002:
Iowa has 5 top 10 finishes nationally
Nebraska has 0. Goose egg. Nada.
Iowa has a better program now than Nebraska.
So sad, Little Red.

I'd also add the 2012 game was really close to going Iowa's way. Just a play or two. IIRC, Nebby had to press an injured Burkhead into action to save the game for them.

Really the only game Nebby was by far the better team was in 2011 (and if you wanted to argue that their DBs held our receivers all game and that's why we didn't do much; I would agree).

Short story, Shawn "the delta bravo" Eichorst should be rethinking where his program is at/has been.

Nebraska has lost 3 out of the last 4 to Iowa getting out scored 140-84.

Nebraska has lost 4 out of the last 4 to Wisconsin getting out scored 175-93

Having spent time at or near both Iowa and Nebraska, I can state with a high degree of confidence that Iowa has better football facilities, better prepares for and sends more guys to the pros, is a superior university academically, and resides in a more enticing college town. It's also closer to big recruiting pools. Barring some unforeseen epic fail it really should be Iowa and Wisconsin duking it out for alpha dog in the West for the foreseeable future.

Illinois led at Nebraska until well in the 4th quarter.
I believe Purdue led at half time.
Nebraska is just another football program and has been for quite some time. How many years will it take for their fans to realize?

Sipple makes it sound like nobody in Nebraska could see this coming. Meanwhile Vegas had Iowa opening as a 3 point favorite against a team the AP poll had ranked 16th in the country. Not often you see an unranked team favored over a top 20 team.

As soon as I could see Tommy was limited and was going to have to play Iowa straight up from in the pocket, I knew Hawks were going to bloody their nose. Didn't necessarily see 30 point blowout though:) Blackshirts couldn't contain a walk-on receiver from getting 108 yards and a touchdown.

I'm reminded of those pathetic middle aged women who still think they are a sexy 20 something. They've packed on the pounds and gravity has taken its toll, but they just don't see it. Still wearing tight clothes and low cut shirts. They're still out and the night clubs. Complete lack of self awareness.

Some of the more realistic Nebby fans are not optimistic about next year either with all the seniors they are losing. Welcome to the B1G Nebby. Not many weak sisters in this league.

P.S. You have now been outscored by Iowa 154-117 since joining the B1G ... Friday was not a fluke.

Go Hawks.

Nebraska lost their identity and bequeathed themselves also-ran status the second they abandoned their trademark run-first offense and tried to become a West Coast juggernaut. Bill Callahan killed the beast, and they've been trapped in a zombie state of existence ever since.
