Starting QB Tomorrow?

Two weeks to the first game...time to make a decision and get the Numero Uno more reps with the guys he is going to be throwing to. I was thinking Rudock would be the guy, but the more I've read about Sokol, it wouldn't be a huge upset if he gets the nod. Then again, KF is going to go with the game manager who can get them in and out of what he needs to at the line of scrimmage, and who will limit turnovers. So I lean back to Rudock.

I have a feeling the first game will be a two series rotation between rudock and Sokol with rudock getting the first two series. Hopefully they can pick a guy no later than2 games in.

Id just like to see both in the first game. Dont really care who goes out there first. Im not saying it isnt important...it just isnt to me. I think one QB will separate himself but it needs to be in a game not just practice.

Rudock will start but I'm sure you already know that. He's been getting all the 1st team snaps since the day after media day. Ironically, the day after KF said, "it's not like everybody is chasing Rudock, the next 20 practices are key." So I guess they decided in a few practices and not really 20. Seems like Rudock was always going to be the guy.

Sokol's the most talented QB, but we might not see him much. If Sokol plays there's a decent chance he will dominate like he did in the Spring game and that will lead to an unwanted QB controversy.

Unless someone knows the ratio of how many times Rudock's hands have been next to Austin Blythe's balls compared to Sokol's, I'm not ready to call this one until KF comes out and says so. I really hope they don't do the Quarter to Quarter thing. All that does is ensure neither gets a good feel for the game...and IMO, only jeopardizes our chances of winning. (See Pittsburgh circa 2008). Pick a guy and stick with him if he shows promise. If on the other hand he looks like Jake C, pull him.

Really, really, really, reeeaallly. that's all I got for that post.

Marc Morehouse had an article that made it sound like Sokol was 3rd.

Where was that...I read a write up where he said if he is number 2 the he will still get a shot at the number 1...but I read it that he felt there was still a competition just that rudock was a little ahead.

Yup and after jvb had his game against osu there were people saying he was better than Ricky Stanzi. And at least his game was against osu not a spring game. I don't care who starts I just feel that rudock will win the job (not be given the job like you believe).

He wasn't always going to be the guy maybe he had separated himself early from Sokol. Good to see you think kf cares more about playing a guy who has been in the program over winning.

Brilliant. Thanks for the input. I'll admit I'm going by what the media has been saying and the photos.

Well you had to envision Seth Myers saying it. Is that better. I just thought your premise that a coach would play a less talented QB, or one who couldn't dominate a spring game as kind of ridiculous. Ruduck looked pretty good in the spring too ya know and it's really hard to compare numbers the way the spring was an alternation fest. I'm going to go with the coach will play the guy who gives him the best chance to win and if that's Sokol...he plays him.

No, I think it comes down to Rudock is very cautious and Sokol can be too aggressive. We all know how risk adverse KF likes to be. I don't think KF understands that his really good offenses have featured either QBs that were athletes (Banks) or QBs that weren't afraid to throw the ball, with more of a gunslinger mentallity.

Just saw a picture on Hawkeyesports of one configuration of the OL. Scherff, Donnal, Blythe, Walsh, and Van Sloten. Me likey.

I like that line group. I will be a little surprised if Boffeli isn't starting though. He played well last year. Or it just shows how good Donnal and Walsh are.

Drew had to be a gunslinger that year because of the running back situation. Banks had one of the best offensive lines and receiving crews you could ask for. The play book was scaled back a lot for Banks because he wasn't the most competent QB mentally in the passing game. GIve those receivers to Stanzi and that line to shonn greene and we win a national championship.

I'm praying for the latter in your statement. Damn...we have some size on the left side. I've heard so many good things about Simmons too...I think you can plug him also. Other players like Van Sloten were talking him up.

If we had Banks this year we'd go at least 9-3. KF always says we need playmakers. The QB is the most important position on the offense but it doesn't seem like he recognizes the value of a playmaker at QB. Both Tate and Banks were playmakers playing QB.
