Stanzi gets 4 year contract

He's in a good position. Cassel is the clear starter and the future of their franchise. Stanzi can sit back and learn the backup role without the pressure of being a top pick. He will make a nice living holding a clipboard.

Yes making $550,000 a year holding a clipboard isn't a bad living.

the headline say 2 year deal and the content of the article says 4 years 2.2mil.
you think they'd have caught that one.

Great for Ricky!

I'm gonna email the link to Patrick Reusse, the cynical hack of a sports columnist up here in the Twin Cities that said last fall of Iowa..."they don't have a quarterback".

Hey Fat azz... He's now a 23 yr-old millionaire with an NFL contract.
Bite me!

Nice attempt at a backhanded compliment. He's going to make a nice living holding a clipboard for 2-4 years, and beyond that nobody is sure. I'm sure you realize Cassel was one of those guys a few years ago, sitting behind and entrenched starter. He studied the game, performed well when given an injury audition and signed elsewhere as the starter. No reason Stanzi can't follow that same career path.

Let me guess. You were one of the guys saying Stanzi wouldn't make it in the NFL?

How did you extrapolate that rant from what he actually said?

12345 made some Stanzi draft predictions that some people didn't like. He'll tell you that he had Rick's draft spot pegged, but I think he posted a couple of different predictions. He's kind of the Steve Deace of Hawkeye draft prospectus.

12345, if that wasn't you, my apologies.

Yea, I think you took that way out of context Duffman. He didn't say Stanzi would be a career clipboard holder. I think it's safe to say barring a Cassel injury that Stanzi will indeed be a clipboard holder for at least a few seasons. I didn't take what Hawk said as a backhanded compliment at all. I think he simply meant that's how it will be for now.

You're correct, that was me. I called the round and the team. At another point I had predicted as high as the 4th (no higher) and as low as the 6th (no lower) so my round spread was pretty tight. My reasoning was more logical than the DB statistics guy that wants to try and make a name for himself by saying Ricky was going to have a similar career as Tom Brady and Peyton Manning among others.

For some reason people think that I dislike Ricky. I don't. I watched the kid win a lot of games for Iowa over the past 3 yrs. With that said, I don't think he's going to be starter for more than 5 games during his entire career. He's an excellent NFL backup because he's going to give it his all on every snap but he doesn't have the tools necessary to be a top flight QB.

Meh, then I pretty much had it right. It's not a personal shot, it's just calling the "he's going to have a nice career holding a clip board" for what it was, a backhanded compliment.

Back to topic. Good for Rick!!

Who knows... yet with an excellent ownership, management and coaching staff in place... how about a New England type run with Ricky playing a poor man's Tom Brady and winning a couple of Super Bowls.

I called Stanzi to KC on here during his JR. year. The GM move made it pretty obvious. Didn't call the round though.

Funny thing was, at the time, the response was pretty much, "too bad for Ricky if that happens."

What a difference a year makes.
