Stanzi: Big 10 Offensive Player of the Week...

I find it ironic as I don't think he played very well. His stat sheet looks good for sure but his passes were a little off target and he really should have checked out of a couple of plays.

I disagree. Stanzi could certainly have played better ... however, he still played solidly. It was because of Iowa's passing game threat that ARob was able to have such a good game. And, Iowa's passing game is powered by Stanzi (and the protection provided by the OL).

Anyhow, I was pleased with how the OL played in the game. They're continuing to make strides ... and that's really important.

It's amazing. Stanzi completes over seventy percent of his passes, averages over ten yards per attempt and throws three touchdowns with no interceptions. His numbers were above his season numbers going into the game. His quarterback rating was 198.9. Yet, people criticize the kid. It just boggles my mind.

I agree with them. He was off all day. Stanzi's bad play is what made the game closer than what it should have been. They should have put Vandenberg in from the start and we would have won by 30+. You really just have to put this one on the coaches...

You know on second thought, I think you have convinced me. But I wouldn't have put Vandy in there. I would put McNutt in and just run the Wildcat all day. I mean why do we put up with a QB who can only muster a .200 QB rating? This isn't 2006!

Robinson accounted for just over 200 yards. Stanzi accounted for over 250. Robinson averaged 4.6 ypc. Stanzi averaged 14.5 yards per completion on 70% passing!

My God people! Seriously, some of his passes were not perfectly on target?!

He is third in the nation in passing efficiency, after this apparently sub-par game!

Do yourselves a favor and just shut up!

Lighten up francis.

By that logic, no running back would ever be an MVP of anything. By that logic Chad Henne was better last year than Chris Johnson, as Henne accounted for over 2800 yards and Johnson only accounted for 2500. I stand by what I said, A-rob carried Iowa on Sat. If you want to get pi$$y about saying stanzi wasn't good, direct it at the people that said it.

I don't think anybody is criticizing Stanzi at all. I just think people are giving props to a couple other players who are deserving as well. Nothing wrong with that. It went to a Hawkeye, so really, that is all that matters. Stanzi could not have done it without DJK's success & vise versa.

yes, anyone who has a different opinion than you is stupid.

nobody bagged on Stanzi other than to say they thought ARob may have deserved the award more.

You identified two completions that weren't thrown directly to the numbers, but one went for a TD and the other a big gain to claim he wasn't as accurate as usual on a game where his QB rating was about .200.

That is nitpicking to an extent that is beyond belief.

I also said even if he wasnt quite as accurate as hes been he still had a very good day. he was also lucky to avoid a pick 6 on a questionable pass to DJK near the end zone.

you nitpicked one part of my statement.

get over yourself.

This is stoopid with 2 o's.

You can make the case for A-Rob or even DJK to get the POW award but to say he didn't play very well is beyond idiotic. In fact, it's so far beyond idiotic that they are currently trying to come up with a new word for it. Nothing is finalized on that front yet but rumor has it "jeebustupid" is an early clubhouse leader.

It's really not a good idea to compare stats between a QB and a RB.
I do agree with you though, Stanzi is awesome.

The fairest thing that I think we should note is that BOTH ARob and Stanzi had very good games. Given the season that Stanzi has been having, it's kinda easy to look at the game and say that Stanzi is just being Stanzi (meaning that as a positive) ... whereas, ARob's 200+ yards of all-purpose yardage was especially impressive ... particularly on the road in such a hostile environment (and also given that he's JUST a sophomore).

By the way ... I'm excited as heck that ARob is just a SO.

I think that it's awesome that fans get to nitpick about what ARob brings to the table as a SO ... what a luxury we'll have at RB in 2011!

At least we won't have to put up with those posters who invariably fret about our top players bolting the NFL early. LOL! The same folks invariably will think that ARob isn't flashy enough to leave early ... and, quite frankly, I'm more than happy about that. I love the thought have having ARob with us through his SR campaign!

If Ricky keeps playing like this, he will be 1st Team all conference and the Silver Football winner...he needed to win this award at least once and probably 2-3 times to make the grade for that level. He will get his chances,as Wis and MSU will load up to stop the run.

!

Yes, 2 more years of his running will be a blessing. I do hope that he can get a breather from time to time in the next couple years though. ;)

Through six games last year, Stanzi was:
6-0 as a starter
109 of 190 (57.4%) for 1359yds, 11TDs and 8INTs (3 that were returned for touchdowns). That's a QB rating of 128.13, if I'm not mistaken.

Through six games this year, Stanzi is:
5-1 as a starter
99 for 145 (68.3%) for 1474yds, 13TDs and 2INTs (1 that was returned for a touchdown). That's a QB Rating of 180.5.

I know that along with the rest of you, I've been impressed by the turnaround Stanzi has shown thus far. He's made some questionable decisions, to be sure, but for the most part, all the hard work he put in during the off-season seems to be paying off.

Now will come several big games against defenses that will be tougher than any we've really faced thus far. Hopefully he can keep this great season going and help lead the Hawks to victory!
