Soooo....Anti-Ferentz crowd

Sooo does it mean anything after 5,6,7,8? I mean how long do you sit at 112th ranked offense and say it doesn't matter for the next game? Just wondering.
If we are winning games, does the data ever really matter? The only data that matters is the record. Its 100% thus far. Data is used to describe performance levels. I agree. Im saying two games into a season is not a time to analyze the data if you are 2-0. I think we can use the "eyeball" test with the offense. Stanley is stiff, inaccurate and pressing. The O-line is inexperienced as far a career starts and generally young. The WR are green and are dropping balls. Fant is under-performing. The good news is Stanley and Fant are good. They will perform. The O-line is talented with NFL quality bodies and they will get better week to week. The WR have speed. The OC needs to trust the WR and QB enough to have them work through some issues. The offense will be better. To use 2 weeks of data to write its obituary with the talent it possesses is ridiculous. Patience is needed. Or worry a lot and dont enjoy any of it. Lol 2-0 and not even close to hitting our minimum offensive potential. Im excited to know we have a very good defense to go with talent on offense. I think it will be "tuned" up for a nice little party week 4 in the thunderdome that is Kinnick Stadium.

LOL, you say it and it's a positive because you "beleve" the offensive will improve significantly. I say it, and I'm a negative Nelly. Because historically and statisticly Iowa has had a mediocre to poor offense under Kirk, I don't see that changing under Brian. I don't expect the "spread " or high octane offense, but I would like to see some offensive competentcy.

Yep. Like I said earlier, if Phil was on the same level as BF we'd be winning 3 to 5 games a year if not worse.

Lol, I was thinking the same exact thing. So how do you explain people’s infatuation over Kirk?

I think they are afraid of the unknown for new head coach.

I'm not afraid of the unknown, I'm afraid of Barta's ability to hire a new head coach and not give away the farm. I don't mind paying a coach a good amount of money if he does well, but put major incentives in place. If a coach does well, he can earn more money than kirk.

Start a coach at $2M and add $3M in incentives. He can make dang good money if he's worth it. Maybe a little more in incentives. Coach won't go broke developing his team and has the opportunity to get really rich.

Paying coaches through major incentives probably isn't how to get a good one, though.

So here is the question. Would Kirk tolerate that from his defense? Would Kirk still be our coach if he had?

Norm and Phil have afforded Kirk the luxury of being an awful offensive coach historically, and that will continue until Brian ascends to HC whenever that is.

The same thing could happen during Brian's tenure. He will have to find his own Phil Parker. Would everyone be happen with 7-5 for another 20 years?

What is wrong with the Iowa fan base to accept this? In my opinion Kirk was never given that huge amount of money and long contract to be a continual 7-5 coach. I am thinking at the time he received that huge contact the good folks who wrote it were thinking 7-5 would be the low end of the totem pole with a lot more regular 9-3 seasons and a conference championship at least once every four years. The Big Ten Network has screwed up everything by paying out over sixty million a year to every school in the conference. There is a lot parity in college sports because of all the money being spread around.

Now having said we might as well accept things as they are because the participation (pacificated) trophy crowd have over run everything. Their at every level of administration at Iowa. You can’t change it. This has apparently met their expectations. Can you imagine what wrestling would have been like if Gable acted and thought this way?

So what is causing this spirit of indifference? A lot has changed in Iowa since I lived and grew up their as a child and young adult. For example, traditional Marriage in Iowa was re-defined by a majority vote by the citizens of Iowa. What’s this have to do with college football? Apathy and indifference in a population affects all faucets of life within communities. This type of change twenty or so many years ago was unthinkable among the general population in Iowa. So what MIGHT be going on here? Do you also know that large amounts of chlorine in public water supplies causes pacification of peoples minds and their wills? Also certain fertilizers if leaked into the public water supplies can cause even more devastating affects on the public health both mentally and physically. Some conspiracy advocates even suspect the government is behind all of this to keep people in a state of mind in order to control the will of the people. In other words dumbing and numbing people down.

This isn’t just in Iowa but a nationwide problem. Proof of this was shown in the whatever response that Americans expressed over the news that our government was found guilty of placing surveillance monitoring devices in televisions at the point of where they were being manufactured. This was revealed on major evening tv news stations all across this country. Don’t believe me? Google it. So why should the lack of college football expectations (or pacification) be any different? By the way I only drink purified water.

Well, getting back to football,

I just keep hoping that Stanley will wake up from his slumber and get this offense moving.

The thought of Brian taking over as head coach and maintaining this same level of offense is just unbearable, however I will try to end my comments on positive note by pointing out that on the bright side we are 2-0 and should win our next game. Then If our defense is as good as Wisconsin’s the finally score of that game could be a 6-3 type of score and anyone can win a game like that. 4-0? Now that would be awesome wouldn’t it? You might have to take some heavy stimulants to keep awake though.

Come on Brian please get it together???

Oh, my goodness.

Data for the first two games doesn’t matter in games 5,6,7,8.

The only data that matters in game 5 is data in game 5. And the prime data is scoring +1 point than your opponent.

If the offense sucks for a half or an entire game and costs us a game, then I’ll be complaining that the sucky offense in a loss like the “fans” are complaining about the sucky offense in a win.

Of course anyone can under achieve. I have seen Stanley and Fant much better. I have seen this collection of receivers play better. I KNOW that the offensive line will improve, thats historically significant. I agree that its belief. I believe it for a lot of reasons. I HOPE its good enough by week 4. Hope. But we will get a lot better and the offense will hit its stride. Fingers crossed by Wisky game. I wont promise that but i have a feeling we will perform much better vs Wisky this year.

Quit talking facts and expectations that are never fulfilled...............by now after twenty seasons everyone should know what we are going to get every year. Excuses.

People complain about people complaining. Well maybe just maybe fans expect that a top ten paid coach should on a regular basis produce a top ten football program and for God sakes beat out Wisconsin on a regular basis.

Name one top ten coach in college football that repeatedly has an anemic offense annually and still coaches for a power five NCAA college football program after seven or more seasons.

I like it that Kirk seems to be a good person who teaches these young men responsibility and consequences. I like it that he doesn’t cheat in recruiting. I believe he is probably a person with high personal values. These are all good traits. Winning isn’t everything as who wants an SEC mindset here at Iowa? I don’t think any of us do. It really is a tough thing. Everyone would love to win at a higher level and keep Kirk and his family at the helm.

If only he would let up on the reins and give Brian or another offense coordinator the freedom to open things up. Yes, in order to do that recruiting would have to improve especially at the offensive skill positions. Kirk just seems to be in a control freak mindset with his offense schemes. Is it his recruiting that causes this or is it his offense schemes that chases away top recruits at the skill positions? Is it a little of both?

I have always wished him the best and hoped that as he became the senior most coach in the Big Ten Conference that this would have lead to gradual improvement to the point that we would be where Wisconsin is. It just seems that greatness under Kirk is not meant to be unless you are of the opinion that consistency is greatness at a 7-5 annual record. I just don’t feel that it is.

Oh by the way dahlhawk even though my comments were written is a response to your comments I am writing it in support of your comments.

Nobody is writing the season off. I don't think I said anything of the sort...I was asking you when does it matter at what point in the season? Our D may be as good as it's ever been. I don't see us getting run out of any game including Wisconsin...but if I see yet another anemic offensive performance against them, Purdont, Illinois....then I gotta wonder what the hell they are doing. Tough to believe we can compete for West Division championships with 112th ranked offense. So far since the divisional split KF has won 0, 0,0 so I'm more inclined to disagree that WINS alone are a good measure for many of us it's competing with a chance to play in the Big Ten Championship game. If we beat Bucky I'm a believer and maybe they've only shown us parts of the playbook.

And before you go off on me again Skeletor I mean Big Ten Championships not West Division. He has won ONE.
