Some Stats Two Games In

All girls are single if you're good enough.

Not good enough. I'm more Ted Mosby than Barney Stinson. Ted, minus the ridiculous number of exes who were "the one", architecture, and overall dorkiness. Just not the smooth talker lol.

That doesn't make any sense to me.

He's really a streaky shooter. Everything must be just right for him. Sometimes if a guy is not in perfect balance with his feet underneath him, not leaning left, right, forward, backward, then he can't hit his shot.
From what I've seen he doesn't shoot well in traffic. Needs to be wide open and unhurried. That's why he often shot fakes and drives when someone is near him.
Not a good sign, imo.

What he really needs to do is work on getting his feet set in any situation. Gatens did a great job of getting his feet set underneath him, even when taking a shot off the dribble. Just got that little hop step off his last dribble to get his feet set, then pull the trigger.

last night mighyt be a combination of Iowa not being as good as people want right now and CMU being better than people wanting to believe, Keno brought in a few JUCO's and even got a 4th year senior that graduated early from his original school. Keno did a pretty good job at Drake and was 1-0 against Iowa while there,
time will tell how good they are, this team is completely different from last year.
and lets not forget he runs the same system that his dad did, Mr. Davis, run and press

Josh is what he is. An average shooter and Big 10 player. I really question why Fran keeps saying he's the best shooter he's ever seen. If that's the case, than Fran hasn't coached any shooters.

You must have missed Fran's penchant for hyperbole.

He needs to get his feet set and underneath him before he takes the jumpshot. On all of his misses in the season opener, you could tell he wasn't set. As soon as he let go the one in the second half, I said to a media member next to me, "that one is in" - and it splashed down. On that shot, he had his feet underneath him, was balanced, and was able to hit the shot.

That Drake team was a one-in-a-hundred years team. Not typical, his dad got that program going.

Not sure how anything can be gleaned from these two games except..... We didn't lose...Yea! MG is playing better than most freshman would. Will it translate against better teams? Don't know. What I really liked about MG is that he seems to learn on the job. For sure down the road at some point....maybe this year, maybe 2 years....he will be a solid player.

All other things are hard to say much about at this point. Iowa has played 2 very bad teams and won decently, but not dominantly.

We lose that game last year. We will get better. We never gave up. Got a little lazy, but snapped out of it thanks to MG! Kid is going to be a player.

Not trying to write Josh off, but he's out there to hit three pointers. If he can't do that, Jok will be getting all his minutes next year.

I expect Josh to shoot a higher percentage from 3 than Clemmons, although not true thus far, but over the course of the year. With that said.... he's gonna lose minutes to Clemmons. Unlike Josh, Clemmons has a complete game. He's a better ball handler, defender, driver which I think we all could have predicted, but we didn't realize he has a good shot too.

Good news... talent on the roster continues to increase. Need to enjoy the ride but part of my can't help but think ahead to 3 years when Gessell, Woody and Clemmons are all starting as seniors with a TON of experience. Reminds me of a roster with Horner, Brunner and Haluska, all who had a lot of playing experience. Hopefully there is a happier ending to this story for MG, Woody and Clemmons.

I think Gessell and Woody will be better than Bru and Horner. I doubt anyone will be better than Haluska.

Fran is showing he can recruit a bit though and if that trend continues, that should be a deep team with talent. I can't wait.

(If that 2012 apocalypse prediction happens I'll be ******, just because of this.)
