Some Hawk "fans" disappoint me

I think the reason that some 'fans' are so disheartened is that they have this perception that Iowa beat themselves with sloppy play (there is some truth to that) which wasn't supposed to happen this year and therefore Iowa is not as good as they thought they were. They'll come around when they see that we have a legit shot at winning the big 10. Then you can tell them how much they suck. Sounds like a win win to me.

This. I can't tell you how many people were (and still are) saying that the team isn't as good as we thought and that the best we'll do now is 9-3, blah blah blah. But think back to week 1 in the NFL. How TERRIBLE did the Colts look? They let a semi-rookie RB (spent last year on the practice squad) gash them for 200+ yards and their offense stank up the joint. Did people say Peyton Manning couldn't get the job done and start talking about the Colts going 8-8 this season? NO! Great teams have bad games, it happens in every sport at every level.

God, and those are the same fans who make it tough to get your call through on Soundoff after the game. They're busy with: "I love Iowa, I love Shonn Greene!". Nevermind that Greene has been gone for almost two years now.

Honestly, I'm even more excited about the season now that we've lost. The NCG was a LONG shot anyway. With a loss now, every game will carry more weight, there will be more on the line (or at least it will feel like it). Seriously, through the first 3 weeks of the season, this has been the least fun season since I've come to school here. 2008 was fun because it was a new experience for me and I got to see Greene light it up all year, as well as one of the biggest upsets in school history. 2009, well, do I really need to explain why that was fun? And this year has given us two easy blowout wins (boring) and a loss. While I don't think any season will ever match 2009 for thrills, I think this season will take a pretty big uptick in excitement now. And I can't wait!
 
All great posts guys! It just frustrates me because I work with all of these people I referenced in the OP. They are the ones who seek me out on Monday mornings, and ask me what I "thought about the game," as if I know more than anyone else... But yeah when I hear these things from fellow season ticket holders and when I see emails floating around the office with people trying to peddle their tickets it definitely frustrates the hell out of me! I completely busted one guy out today at lunch when an ISU fan asked him if he was going tomorrow. I interrupted and said, "NO! (insert name here) isn't excited about the Hawks anymore!" Even ISU fans shook their heads at that one!
 
There are lots of different people out there that root for Iowa. Who am I to judge what it means to be a "real fan"? I know lots of people that want Iowa to do well, and watch them when they can, but couldn't probably name five people on the team if you spotted them KF. Does that make them lesser fans? They'd say no, they just have lots of other things going on.

I guess you could make the argument that living and dying with the team and making lots posts on a message board makes you a "true fan" but in the end I'm not sure that it gives you anything other than other than a smug feeling and a few "attaboys" from your internet bretheren.
 
I'm taking my whole family to the game and I can't wait. Just hope the weather turns out okay. It'll be my youngest boy's first ever Iowa football game, and he's fired up big time.

I love Iowa football, and any chance I get to set foot in legendary Kinnick Stadium is good by me. Yeah, we lost ONE game last weekend and it stings, but EVERYTHING is still on the table.

I am taking my Dad to his second game. I took him to NW last year, and I told him I'd never take him again... I figured Ball St would be a safe bet...

I am also taking one of my friends and his Dad. His Dad has never been to a game before. I have taken about 12-15 people to their first Iowa game just in the last 3-4 years. And now they are all Hawk fans! :)

But the ones who lose their excitement about Iowa Football after one loss (which is who STATE was talking about) are NOT real fans. Really? One loss and you're off the bandwagon? STATE also said that those people couldn't name more than a couple players. That's not what made them bad fans, it was just a little thing that seemed to complement the big issue.

I have gone thru many "devastating" Iowa losses over the years. They all seem like the end of the world at the time but....time does heal all wounds and life goes on. I'll always be a Hawk fan...no matter what.

Arizona on the road isn't as worse as the ISU Banks game at Kinnick...
 
I'm sure glad no one dropped the Jamie Pollard, "If you don't contribute CA$H to the program, you're not a REAL fan." line on this thread. Some of us don't have the where-with-all to buy season tickets, but that does not make us less of a fan.
I've been living & dying with the Hawks for over fifty years, yes even during "those" years when the only time we could see the hawks on tv was for their annual a$$ whipping by tOSU. If I'm lucky, I get to see them a couple of times a year in Historic Kinnick Stadium. This week isn't one of those games, but I'll be glued to the B10 network for it.

I WILL be there for homecoming next week, sec 136 row 11 remember-

WE OWN PENN ST!!!

Thankfully we made it through Saturday without any setbacks (minus my severe sinus infection from sitting in the rain for hours on Saturday).

My dad just may be invited back sometime in the future. :D
