Don't forget Iowa lost one of their leading scorers in Tucker, as well, a fact that most people overlook or don't want to admit.

At least Crean has had some success on the high-major level, including a Final Four, and has produce players that have made the NBA. Lick has done neither.

With that in mind, what does that say about those two programs? I realize Penn State has never been a BB powerhouse, but Indiana continues to make no progress. Yes, they lost Roth and Creek but Iowa lost Tucker and had Fuller/Gatens/Cully hurt during long stretches of the year.

I'm not trying to deflect attention away from the problems we have, but it just interesting to me that Iowa finishes up with arguably the worst season ever, yet they finished ahead of two teams.

I'm not sure I would call Marquette a high-major. Up until the mid-90s they were still pretty much a mid-major. And even when they created Conf-USA, it's not like that conf was filled with high-majors. That was a pretty weak high-major conference if you are referring to that. Obviously Butler is a clear cut mid-major. Their records are pretty comparable, their tourney success are seasonably comparable. And even if it's hard to admit, Lickliter has done better in the Big Ten than has Crean.

Like I said...if it makes you feel better. ISU beating Nebraska and Colorado means nothing to me and once they are in the lower half of the B12 I don't care where they are slotted. It's still just a degree of suckitude.
 
This is a decently long thread talking about 2 of the worst teams in college basketball. I don't take any pleasure or satisfaction in finishing 9th in the Big Ten no matter how bad the teams below us are when we LOST 20 GAMES! I don't see the point in comparing Iowa to teams below them, we need to get better, let's compare us to teams 3-8 and figure out how we can jump some of those teams next year.

I am sure there will be a 9 part expose detailing how Iowa will make the sweet 16 in 2011. Until then, when does the football team start spring practice?
 
Arguing who is worse between Crean and Lick reminds me of the South Park episode with the election between a turd and a giant d ouche.
 
I looked it up yesterday in the record book on Hawkeyesports.com, and before Lickliter was hired, no coach had ever lost more than 16 games in a season, unless I missed a season because I was just eye-balling the season-by-season records. There were 16-loss seasons on a few different occaisions.

Lick's tenure so far:
Year 1: 19 losses
Year 2: 17 losses
Year 3: 20 losses and counting (22 looks likely)

In other words, Lickliter has broken the old record for losses each and every season he's been our coach. Couple that along with the worst winning percentage in program history, and now you know why the fan base is furious.

I've been harping alot on the won/lost record lately, but how can you ignore this?

I dont know how you ignore it but a lot of people are good at doing that
 
Will Iowa fans soon start to measure a seasons success in how many losses the Hawkeyes chalk up? Like say next season we might say, "Man, we did better this season, we only got 16 losses." *high fives*

Oh, I get what you are saying, my point isn't to make Iowa fans feel better about their team. My point is, if Iowa was this bad this year, what does that say about Penn State and Indiana. If this is the worst season of all-time at Iowa, that can't be good news for either of those teams.

What does it say about the Big Ten as a whole? Penn State just about beat Michigan State last night at home.

It says that PSU has no tradition and that Indiana is coming off of NCAA penalties and multiple injuries. I didn't see enough of PSU this year but their finish surprises me a bit.
 
PSU won 27 games last year. Iowa won 15. Context,Spank.
Crean inherited zero scholly players 24 months ago. He has gotten 11 commits from top 150 (Rivals) players. Lick inherited 8 scholly players 36 months ago and has gotten commits from zero top 150 players(rivals)...and if IU beats NW tomorrow, and Iowa loses to Minny on Sunday...they both have 4 wins...reverse the situation..ie Lick was at IU for 36 months with zero top 150 players and Crean was at Iowa for 24 months with 11 top 150 players....who has more hope?
