SIAP -- But here is Bruce Pearl's Termination letter

Actually it says they terminated his employment agreement and he is an at will employee. I would be willing to bet he is done at UT and maybe with coaching at this level forever.

I wouldn't say that. Calipari is still coaching, and how many jobs did Sampson have, a few even though he was a known cheater. I don't think he's done.

Yes it does state that he's an at will employee, until they can discuss his future employment, which means they could still sign him to a new contract.

Was just a formality, they wrote up a new contract with the pay reduction and have sent it to him already. His lawyers are looking at it and all he has to do is sign.

Lying to the NCAA about this says mountains about Pearl's character.

UT fired him and are setting up to release him and his assistants so there is no cost associated with the process. Pearl is a deadman walking.

Pearl never ever got the results that Calipari did ... and there is only one Kentucky ... so he is toast as a D-1 coach.

I am so glad we did not seriously pursue (or have our employment offer entertained ) by this crook.

The chicken has come home to roost and I imagine the Illinois fans are feeling this is vindication.

You're making way too much of this. He's going to be the coach at Tennessee this year and for years to come. His reduced salary is $11M for 4 years, they offered him this new contract just two weeks ago, it just hasn't been signed yet because they are still negotiating on some terms.

I said it in another thread, Pearl is not done at UT. He has done more for that program than any other men's basketball coach and they love him down here. To be honest, it's not even an issue on local talk radio but some of you want to blow this thing up.

Pearl has always had the aura of a snakeoil salesman but in the past he's gotten the benefit of the doubt. The doubt has been removed. Lying to the NCAA investigators is going to cause him a lot of grief.

Isn't it oxymoronic to have the words resign (sign again) and resign (voluntarily quit) spelled the same and used when talking about a person's contractual employment?

Even if he is done at UT, Pearl is far from done as a major D1 head coach. If he is let go, he will land on his feet at another program for before next season begins.

Now if this was Pat Summit, she may be done. The reason for the double standard is money. In womens college basketball, it really does not change the amount of money that your program brings in if you win or lose. The mens side is a totally different game. The money a winning program brings in makes many colleges turn a blind eye to NCAA infractions. The best recent examples of this was IU hiring Sampson, and UK hiring Calipari.

To sign again is "re-sign" with the hyphen. To vacate the position is to resign. Really, the English language is stupid, full of these idiosyncrasies.

I am in the Tennessee radio footprint. Believe me, it is a topic on local talk radio. That being said, claiming this means Pearl is fired is incorrect.

Dex Bryant gets suspended for a year for lying to the NCAA about something that was legal. Pearl lied to coverup recruiting violations. Shouldn't Pearl get at least a one year suspension too.

Actually, there is some suspension chatter down here. But it is not about the University suspending, but rather the NCAA. That might change things with the school. Having your coach not be able to recruit is one thing, but not coach?

I just recently did quite a bit of reading about the Dion Thomas incident. I missed most of the Tom Davis era when I joined the Navy and didn't have a computer back then. Don't quite know what to make of all that but regardless of what really happened Pearl came across to me as a snake oil salesman and ethically challenged. None of this surprises me. Pearl found a home in the SEC where Tennessee will throw big money at him and and the administration will look away when he crosses the line. Regardless of whether he survives this or not I feel very glad we don't have him at Iowa nor in the Big Ten.

Note that the assistants including Steve Forbes were fully involved and aware of the transgressions. I was on the Forbes bandwagon at the time, but Barta dodged a bullet.
