Should WHOTV 13 have aired the Ferentz video?

so kurts is a little butt hurt, i can imagine. coaches are notorious for behavior 10x kurt's litttle episode. much to do about nothing

after the PSU thing i can't believe this isn't a bigger story, nationally. Is this airing nationally? ESPN?

Because this is nothing like the PSU thing. PSU was a decades long conspiracy to protect the football program at the expense of dozens of children. This Iowa thing is a handsy, mid-level employee in the athletic department.

yeah maybe, i dont know a ton about it but I did read that it may have been present back when he was working for UI previously, and i thought i read that there were lots of students involved. Lots of students involved, an athletic department administrator...i would think it would be a bigger story. SOunds like a perv, i bet there is a lot more with this not known. Remember, according to JoPa it was just some "horseplay" in the shower, just "rough housing, fooling around"

i've seen several bo panini interviews where he is a total jerk to the reporters and it isn't even mentioned, it is just norm with him. i watched one where he acted completely disgusted with the questions, nothing was even said afterword

"Public" figure in this context has not one thing to do with whether he is paid with "public" funds.

lol, exactly. It has nothing to do with where his paycheck comes from. Most of the biggest "Public Figures" are celebrities and pro athletes who are paid with private funds. He is a HUGE public figure in Iowa.

The guy who put it on the news was completely ridiculous. Any number of competent journalists could have taken his reaction and put the focus on the disappointing season or the increased tension in the football office. Hell, he could have talked about "Fort Kinnick." Instead you get some tool standing up there with a second lead story who is basically saying, "Oooh MOM, do you know what Coach said today?" It was unprofessional and wreaked of a desperate ploy to create controversy. Like sports as brought to you by TMZ (only that's insulting TMZ).

There's a lot to be said for Ferentz's answer and closing statement to the reporter who asked the question. Some dude covertly filming some coach dropping the F bomb was pitiful and said more about the reporter than it did Ferentz.

For the record, I'm not much of a Ferentz supporter these days.

ETA: just saw the post above. Damn, I agreed with a Cy supporter?

As a former reporter (back in the day) I think it is fair game. I did not see the newscast so don't know what context was provided. In a forum like that -- with a room full of reporters -- Kirk should be aware that someone might have been likely to listen in on the conversation. It's the nature of the beast in today's 24/7 news cycle ... with everyone wanting to be the one to offer an "exclusive" news story or "exclusive" clip. The story itself? Well, I honestly don't think it is a news story just because Kirk dropped an "F" bomb. I think "making it a story" is simply adding fuel to the fire because of what Iowa is experiencing on the field.

I've heard a lot of good things about Kirk from people who have dealt with him personally.

The guy just comes across in such a awkward way - especially with the media.

Channel 13 loves to dish on the Hawkeyes every time its negative. When positive its as short as possible. I say hawkeye fans should watch the other local channels. In other words; boycott Channel 13.

The other locals are way too lame for that to happen, imho.
