Shimonek & DW

Shimo gets targeted and no penalty flag is thrown, next play is perfect pass to the endzone to take the lead.

shimo ends up
4/8
96 yards
2 TDs
0 ints
Basically pulls out the win (his coach awarded him the game ball)

DW
MIA - have no idea what the deal is

TT
6-6 on the season
Texas
6-6 on the season

I wouldn't mind facing either in a bowl game, but would prefer TTech just because of the Hawkonnection storyline.

Would Shimo start over Stanley? No way to know. Stanley is a special QB who will be misused by KF over the next 2 seasons.

Tim Brando goes on a long tangent about Shimo learning how to restore furniture from his parents.

Then the broadcast ends with video from the locker room of Coach Bro giving Shimo the game ball.

I guess the season had a good ending for Shimo.

Happy for Shimonek. Came in and made a few ballsy throws, and TTU came out with the come-from-behind win. I'd like to play TTU as well, but wouldn't mind trying to get a little payback from Texas either.

Again, for the 300th time, Shimonek left Iowa because he couldnt grasp the pro style offense. He basically admitted he was too dumb for Greg Davis' system, which in itself is hilarious

THIS IS A DIRECT QUOTE FROM NIC SHIMONEK TO ROB HOWE:

Shimonek said. "The reason I'm leaving, is the offense. For 4 years in high school, I was in the spread. In college football, you only have 5 years maximum to play, so I don't find it logical to spend 3 of those years trying to get comfortable with the system. I'm transferring to Texas Tech, which is more up my alley, so I feel I'll be more comfortable in that system." Shimonek said he's hoping to earn a scholarship at Tech. Giving up paid schooling at Iowa wasn't something he considered when he began learning the pro-style. "I didn't think it would be too hard of a transition, but it was very difficult. You only have so many years to play. At a place like Tech, I'll start out being comfortable,"

Good for Shimonek, he went where he was comfortable and could play some. That said Shimonek was nothing more than a system QB, and a poor one compared to other Tech QB's. He wouldn't have played a down at Iowa and would have been 3rd string behind Stanley and Weigers this year.

Oh, and can we finally drop all the Willis was a star stuff? If you can't produced at a school that throws it 500 times a year, you aren't good.

What's the deal with Willies? All I can find is that he hasn't played the past 4 or 5 games for disciplinary reasons.

No issue with grades (apparently):

Senior wide receiver Dylan Cantrell, senior offensive lineman Tony Morales, senior quarterback Nic Shimonek, senior wide receiver Derrick Willies, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Zach Adams, redshirt freshman place kicker John DeLaGarza, sophomore defensive lineman Eli Howard and junior offensive lineman Jack Reichel were all named to the All-Big 12 academic second team, according to the release.

The announcers ran out of stuff to talk about for the last ten minutes of the game on FOX last night. They thanked their crew over and over again, and had pictures and stories about the group that worked the games for FOX OTA broadcasts of college football.

I think Tim Brando had worked on his monologue about Shimo restoring furniture and was happy to use it when the quarterback made his final touchdown pass.

The defense sealed the win with turnovers that set up the scores and iced the game at the end. Whatever system your team runs, if you get more turnovers you will probably win.

Finally, it was pretty clear that Coach Bro was not in jeopardy of being fired, and with so many openings this year Tech would have been very low in the pecking order and probably would not get a better coach. The quarterback change probably reflected his job security and he is popular in Lubbock with the locals.

All-Big 12 academic team? Is that like being the tallest midget?

Oh man, our magical journey of following The Texas Tech Red Raiders as some sort of parallel universe version of our team is nearly at its end. They are up against one of the most talented Group of Five teams in the Birmingham Bowl and the game just started.

USF just telegraphed what they were doing on 4th down and were stopped.

Kirk probably applauded . . . LOL

Gene Chizik is a really good play by play commentator. I hope ESPN uses him more often and not just for third tier bowl games.
