Several things cost us this game

1. Fran McCaffrey getting ejected
2. 10 assists - 10 turnovers
3. Full court press that lead to open 3 pt shots.
4. Poor FT shooting.
5. Our 7 ft Center that can't do better than 3 pts and 3 rebounds.
6. Poor FT shooting.
7. Not taking advantage of the foul trouble Wisconsin's players were in by isolating and attacking those players. Not a single one of them fouled out and there were 3 players with 4 fouls with 10 minutes left in the game. That's poor recognition by whoever is supposed to be leading this team on the court.
8. Missed layups......for Cripes sake!
9. POOR FREE THROW SHOOTING!!!
10. POOR FREE THROW SHOOTING!!!!!

Our starting Center had 8 pts 6 rebounds

Free throws...

Bad turnovers, dumb turnovers at really bad times

poor clutch shooting

The bigger thing with the free throw shooting is missing the front ends of 1-and-1's. They could have shot a lower percentage tonight and still won, if they'd have just hit the front ends. We miss way too many of those, and those hurt way more than any other.

Their starting center (who is a legitimate all-conference candidate) had 9 points and 4 rebounds. Woody played a good game, IMO. And he did surprisingly well defensively, considering how much time he had to spend defending on the perimeter.

Sorry but Woodbury started the game. He won the opening tip off. Which was his best play of the entire game.

Allowing 10-22 from behind the arc also didn't help. 45.5%. This is a stat that drives me absolutely freaking nuts.

We are terrible in the half court because we lack talent. Outside of Uthoff, who has impressed? Gesell shooting 65 percent from the line and clanking shots? Big mistake not getting a better PG>

I think woodbury's fouls are at least part due to how he leans into the shooter and braces for impact even when he has position. He makes a 'C' when he needs to make an 'I'.

Gesell's shooting has been really frustrating but other than that he has been a very good player.

Does that happen to you very often? I mean considering Iowa is one of the top 3 point percentage defenses in the nation, has been for two seasons.

Subtracting the 4 free points from the technicals, Mike's free throw with 26 seconds left ties the game, so we don't foul. Or Marble's last 3 puts us ahead by 1 instead of down 3. So I do think the technicals were the biggest difference maker.

He didn't score a lot, but he did well on defense in a matchup I thought he would get owned in. He and Gabe gave a solid effort at the 5 spot. Giving up a bazillion threes, missing free throws, Fran's tirade and Brust hitting everything (because why the **** not), plus a long list of other issues, come before Woody for tonight's loss.

I thought we were contesting the 3 pt shots well enough. A couple of times Brust and Gasser were left open in the zone defense when Gesell was running from side to side at the top of the key. The full court press was a bad idea against this team. They just floated to the corners/wings for easy 3 pt shots. That was a coaching mistake......but when your coach has been escorted out of the building, what can you expect?

Agreed. But it's ONE of the reasons. His scoring was a distant 2nd to the 3 rebounds he netted. Rebounding is part of playing defense.

He spent a lot of time on the perimeter because of Kaminsky (who had 4 rebounds). A guy like Woody isn't going to pull down 6-10 boards while playing at the 3-point arc.

Disagree, the freethrow shooting is really bad but he shot allot better last year. Other than that he was blowing by his man and getting to the rim allot and kept Jackson in front of him all day.

His freethrow shooting will get better.

This team is allot worse off with Mike on the bench.

The biggest difference maker was missing 20 layups.

It is not this simple. End of game situations are so different. You are just looking at the scoreboard and doing math. If Wisky misses 1 of those 3's against a press, we have a transition basket. It is such a fine line

#1 Fran's meltdown and FT gift to wi
#2 Giving up 51 second half pts to wi???? Freaking wi????
#3 Poor FT shooting
#4 Missed layups

Just went through the play-by-play statistics and counted "missed layups"
Iowa 17
Wisconsin 11
