Several things cost us this game

#1 Fran's meltdown and FT gift to wi
#2 Giving up 51 second half pts to wi???? Freaking wi????
#3 Poor FT shooting
#4 Missed layups

Just went through the play-by-play statistics and counted "missed layups"
Iowa 17
Wisconsin 11
That's a huge number.

1. Fran McCaffrey getting ejected
2. 10 assists - 10 turnovers
3. Full court press that lead to open 3 pt shots.
4. Poor FT shooting.
5. Our 7 ft Center that can't do better than 3 pts and 3 rebounds.
6. Poor FT shooting.
7. Not taking advantage of the foul trouble Wisconsin's players were in by isolating and attacking those players. Not a single one of them fouled out and there were 3 players with 4 fouls with 10 minutes left in the game. That's poor recognition by whoever is supposed to be leading this team on the court.
8. Missed layups......for Cripes sake!
9. POOR FREE THROW SHOOTING!!!
10. POOR FREE THROW SHOOTING!!!!!

Other than Woody's stats, you pretty much have it down.....

Missed shots around the basket and free throw shooting are the main culprits. Fran's blow up didn;t help, but I do not blame him. He is a passionate coach who stands up for his players and wants them to know he is 100% behind them under any circumstances.....

As a result of the play last night, the players have chosen new uniforms.....

Some of you keep mentioning poor free throw shooting as a reason they lost this game. They shot 68% and average 71% as a team, Marble and Gesell actually shot better than their season average collectively. You add 1 more free throw made and they still lose by 3 points.

The problem is the lack of free throw attempts. Wisconsin made more free throws than Iowa attempted and part of that was because of the bonus 4 free throws they got due to Fran flying off the handle. A typical Iowa game those numbers are reversed, usually Iowa makes more free throws than the other team attempts. The only other difference was Wisconsin making 6 more 3 point goals than Iowa, perhaps Iowa should have created more shots from behind the arc. But on the other hand Iowa made 5 more field goals than Wisconsin.

Statistically all the other numbers are about where they should be. Wisconsin made 1 extra 3 point field goal above their season average (percentage wise) but on the other hand Iowa held them well below their season field goal percentage. Iowa out rebounded them, had less turnovers, and only had more fouls because of the end of the game. I will say it again the difference was 4 technical free throws that Brust got to shoot.
