Seth Wallace's "New" Recruiting Tactics

Figured this article deserved it's own thread: http://isportsweb.com/2015/06/24/iowa-football-recruiting-why-the-sudden-success/

I understand some of these things aren't necessarily "new" tactics, but I think it's awesome that Wallace has come in and really provided some much needed energy to the recruiting coordinator position. Clearly he gets it and the recent results are proof of that. His presence on Twitter and use of photo-shopped material is awesome. You can never try too hard when it comes to recruiting. Kids nowadays love to have their egos tended to.

*Even better... check out the author's bio at the bottom. He's an ISU student who was born and raised a Hawkeye and is still a Hawkeye. Cracks me up.

Catchy imo, kids, nowadays love to see themselves as the next Brady, or LeBron, the photoshop idea is cleverly done, and that could sway a kids emotion a little and convince him to sign w/the b&g...I like it...

These kids have grown up in a social media age. They watch ESPN and see high school high lights at times. They go onto YouTube and check out peers all the time. They constantly interact on Twitter. Seth is doing a great job marketing to them in ways they get and like.

Iowa’s long awaiting new football facilities, the ones that the coaches and athletic director Gary Barta have been talking about for the past couple of years, are finally done and the recruits love them. Most recruits have talked about how high tech and amazing they are. out of the way to say that the facilities are a big reason why they committed to the Hawkeye program.

Iowa has transformed from having above average facilities to world class facilities. Ask recruits, top class work out buildings attracts them. So far the recruits have gushed about the new facilities, going out of the way to say that the facilities are a big reason why they committed to the Hawkeye program."

Yes, secondary to the new "World Class" facilities, they are really pulling in the 3 star recruits. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer and I actually like how the class is setting up in the end, but with the facilities, there should be a couple 4* recruits peppered in the class. Out of 16, at least a couple.

Pertaining to the article, I suspect other schools are or have been doing those things such as photoshopping etc., and most likely we are just catching up. But, at least Iowa working to keep pace with the Joneses.

Pretty safe to say the combination of Wallace's approach and new facility have made an impact. Hope they can build on to it and PLAY well this year. No flashy pictures on social media will help recruiting as much as establishing yourself as winners on the field.
They should be trumpeting up Scherff a ton. He's a guy who could have left early but came back because he loved being there. Almost no offensive lineman should turn us down.

Cinsidering Iowa's last few seasons, and the fact this is the first recruiting class to come through the facilities, and the new recruiting strategies, I think they are performing pretty well. I think next year could be the breakthrough recruiting wise. They will probably get 2 4* in state kids, and since many of the current 40 2017 offers we have out now have visited the facilities, I'm thinking we might be able to nab a couple more 4 * kids. Then there is the Holy Grail 5* Eppy's kid........next year could be a special class, as long as we don't completely shat the bed during the season.

I thumbed up you. I agree. this could be a very important season going forward. A 9-10 win season could really pay dividends coupled with the facilities. A winning team, excellent facilities and a chance to get to the NFL. Hopefully, that will be enough to pull some highly rated recruits so the upper midwest winters, which has to play in the decision of some players. I think this season is pivotal to and results could go either way. Could either be relevant again on the college landscape or could free fall into the abyss.

People don't realize the whole photoshop graphic thing in recruiting has been being used by most relevant college programs for years now...once again we are late to the party. Just like we were late with good facilities. Better late than never though right?

As long as it's working I'll choose not to complain about it. Clearly the young men are loving it.

Wow you really hate life. The new facilities are unbelievable, but it's not like the old ones were pure garbage either. Try to see the positive side, Iowa saw an opportunity to fix some things and they are taking steps to do it. We can cry about past recruiting, but I would rather focus on the possibility things will get better. Now if nothing was changing, and we only had a few mediocre recruits like some schools, I would be complaining right there with you.

its not like facilities are something you can whip up every year. They are an investment that will have to be redone in 20 or 30 years time. That's for every school. If we would have done it 10 years ago then fans like you would say we were too hasty because we would be outdated now.

The whole state of Iowa is behind the rest of the country, didn't realize it till I moved away... You want fast food? How about Hardee's, McDonalds, Wendy's and Culver's... that's it. Cedar Rapids wants a casino, wait isn't there 4-5 casinos with in 40 miles! Oh and The field of Dreams people want to build a massie sports complex next to it...only about 15 years too late.. Breweries just starting to pop up.

Facebook, I see something out here, then wait 3 months and it will be going around my Iowa friend's pages.

The facilities look great but these are going to be seen as world class for another month or two. That's the way it goes in this arms race.

The key is to continue to push the envelope and get going on the next thing for football and basketball. Far too often we did something and then nothing more for 20+ years until we fell to the 'worst' in the B1G status.

Even with the new facilities we are maybe #5 at best in the Big Ten in OVERALL football facilities. Still behind in basketball and baseball as well in terms of facilities. Need upgrades everywhere to keep up.

Name the schools that have better facilities. This might be the dumbest post you have ever posted.....Which is a tough thing to do since you are so full of failure.

It will be hard to find 5 schools in the nation that have better facilities right now.

If we wind up with a top 40 recruiting calls for '16 and then get 7 or less wins in '15, do you keep kfootball as coach? Keep in mind that these '16 kids most likely won't see the field (a majority, anyway by past history) until '18 and the earliest. kfootball's contract is up at the end of '19.

Since these recruits are only just now beginning to see the new facilities I think it's a win and a sign of things to come. In fact, we got a commitment from one of the top RB/LB of the state of Illinois. And the three-star kid out of Minneapolis would've been rated four-star if he played in the Chicago area (direct quote from one of the recruiting analysts). Also, I can't remember which one it was, but one of the recruits was a four star "athlete", but was downgraded to a 3 star as a linebacker.

If you listened to the Blackheart gold pants podcast recently, they had the Iowa recruiting analyst from 247 on as a guest recently. He really likes what Iowa has been doing. For those that want to poo poo on everything Iowa does, they may not want to listen to it; as it provides a reason for optimism.
