If he doesn't develop into a 5. Lickliter is in big time trouble. Iowa has nobody on this roster that can handle a true post up player..

I believe Archie will provide some much needed height and athleticism on the defensive end of the floor next season as well.

Yes, Archie I believe is 6'9" or 6'10" and by all accounts very athletic. He may well be able to match up with Sims or a Sims like player athletically at least on the defensive end.

Unfortunately he will never see the floor because of how much of a liability he will be on offense. Seeing him shoot the ball during practice is seriously just hard to watch. If I remember correctly he only averaged a few points a game at the Juco level.

he averaged 6pts in Juco college! I mean come on, that won't even get you on some div 2 schools list, but yet Iowa recruited him and gave him a scholly? I really question licks ability to recruit. What does he see in some of these players?

Unless Iowa goes out and gets a 7ft or 6ft 10in big boy, we are gonna be the same as we were this year. No inside game, relying on the 3pt shot and praying we get hot every game. Seriously with tucker leaving, lick needs to go to TYLER, TX and look at some of their players. Try and get a BIG man from there and insert him into the rotation next year.

That's what I thought as well when I watched him in practice. Reminded me of Looby but with less offensive skills. Yikes.

Let's hope for improvement and development in the off season I guess.

Seems like lick struggles recruiting jucos....now, Devan has been ok,but is so specialized that he cannot be on the floor too much, Jermain Davis did not fit,and now with Archie we have to commit 3 years of scholarships for a two year guy who may not contribute much on offense...not good, when you sit in the middle of some of the best jucos in the country.
It is the one thing Iowa does have going for it...a solid juco system in state, but we end up getting benchwarmers off of Kirkwood, and Vincennes, and a specialist out of a middling illinois juco....just have to do better, lick.

As for Larson playing center...I am game for that. Sharing the load with Cole at least. I think Jarryd is a warrior but that is the one position that we are really undersized and Larson sounds like a perfect Matt Howard-type center in licks system....get ready Mr Larson, you need to be the one frosh who really steps up.

There are not a lot of good post players in the Big Ten. You can get by with an athletic forward, and maybe are even better off with that given some of the matchups.

Looby wasn't exactly instant offense, either. I'm afraid that if we have Archie on the floor for defensive purposes, that means we're short a scorer on the other end of the floor.

I would anticipate Larson is going to be getting more PT than Archie, if I was going to make a guess. I'm not going out on much of a limb there.

I love Cole's heart, enthusiasm, loyalty, leadership and hustle. He's also a fine athlete and a fine defensive player.

But offensively, Jarryd is one of the least instinctive, least skilled basketball players I've ever seen starting for Iowa. We really would benefit from having someone down low who could be counted on to make more of his scoring opportunities.

Personally, I think Cougill is a good candidate for that spot. Doesn't mean he can't step out and shoot the three from time to time. Heck, even Jarryd "shot" one last night.

I think if we got good shooters at 3 and 4 that we can sacrifice offense for a defensive upgrade at 5. Anyone have the avg. of boards he had at juco?

Lick needs to find someone on the juco trail that can come in and contribute right away. I mean seriously if he offered Archie, who averaged 6pts a game and 4reb a game. That is seriously poor numbers for a div 1 recruit!

What about Indian Hills, they used to have some amazing Big guys! Do they still have good teams or not!

Archie didn't even start on his Juco team.. and we redshirt him and use a valuable scholly for 2011... that really blows my mind..
