Washington St. game thread

What an entertaining college game! Something like 14 lead changes and 9 ties, back and forth, neither team can hit a 3, then with 4 min remaining 4 consecutive treys by both teams. One player on each team just unstoppable. And then the Hawks hit at 8 straight FTs to seal the game after struggling all night at the line. The PG position for Iowa tonight was so interesting. In the first half, Harding was excellent: hit a 3, moved the ball, and was crafty in the lane, both scoring and assisting. Thelwell came into the game and immediately had a TO and passed way too early on a 3-on-2 fast break which led to Sandfort picking up his 2nd foul. Then in the 2nd half Thelwell ends up being the savior by nailing back-to-back treys with the game in the balance. I liked the defensive effort by Iowa's 2nd team...not super skilled offensively, but they gave effort on the defensive end. Have never seen Dix look like he did tonight -- I assume he's either sick or injured. To get a win at a 'neutral site' vs a P5 team with Dix and Sandfort struggling -- huge!

Harding's issue is too much dribbling and everyone on the team watching him. He dribbles into trouble and compounds it by stopping his dribble. Iowa has lineups that look lost on offense, which doesn't help him.

I'm here .... Have NO CLUE why OF sat 9 mins! Bad lineups by Fran and no TOS to keep game under control.
All that and bottom line - they're all shooting like shit, missing free throws and, as always, can't defend.

Unfortunately, this is Iowa vs bigger, very athletic teams.
Ha ha ha

They held a team that was averaging close to 100 to 66, some sort of D must have been played
My eyes saw that 66 points was more so due to a really bad shooting night than Iowa defense. Par for course, Hawks were carved up by drives. Surprised WSU didn't use more size inside but realized they're bigs are more long, face-up 3's than back-to-basket, physical 5's or could've caused some foul problems for Ladj, Seyd and Owen.

Look, Good - I'm not trying to detract from a really entertaining, solid W. Hawks made their shots and throws when it really mattered. However, I get and accept they are who they are when it comes to how they're gonna win games - and it ain't gonna be due to locking down the other team.

Iowa's best "defense" is keeping opponents on the perimeter and banking on poor shooting. By default, it means they have to focus on outscoring than defending. Fortunately, this year, I feel like they are more capable of executing the strategy because their athleticism and shooting / scoring capability is as deep as we've seen in several seasons.
