Season tarnished

They got beat by a better team yesterday, vs Oklahoma in 2011, v LSU in 2013, v Texas in 2006. 2002, that one was a bowl prep issue and one Kirk acknowledged.

Ok Stanford is good, but they aren't 35-0 good over Iowa. That performance and the 3 previous bowl games shouldn't be acceptable. Vegas favored Stanford by 6.5, Iowa was extremely unprepared and that trend has remained over the last 4 bowl games.

They were 29 points better yesterday. Are they That much better, no, but they likely beat Iowa 8 times out of ten and probably by more than 10 a few times.

It's cliche and made fun of because it's a Kirkcism, but ebbs/flows is real. It's the same reason a team we beat by 30 beat the team that beat us by 29. It sucks, but it happens.

Ferentz is paid 4 mil a year for that exact stuff not to happen. Losing is one thing but that is just unacceptable

Oh my Godd. He makes how much? Wow, hadn't heard that. Never been mentioned here.

So, he's paid that much, not to win, but to not get blown out? You know, cause losing is one thing and totally acceptable.

JFC, get a new mantra. Or get over it.

This exactly. If he's paid to not get blown out then he certainly deserves a pay increase.

But what about other coaches?

Just what does the opposing coach get paid to do when facing the $4 million coach?

Is he paid to not, not win?
paid to win but not blow out?
Is he supposed to try?
Not show up for work?
What?

We will learn from this game. We are not happy with our team's performance but sometimes that is just the way things go in life and football. That's football. We will hit the training room in 2 weeks and this game will be in the back of our minds. I am convinced that if we keep our eyes on the sled we will be fighting for a championship next year. I am proud of our guys.

^ I can somewhat agree, if King comes back and Ott gets another year. "Loaded" might be too big of a word, though.

I actually thought Iowa was a year ahead of schedule. Iowa is loaded next year

Maybe not loaded, but if the Oline improves and Ott and/or King return, possibly one of the more overall complete team in terms of talent Iowa has seen in many years.

Really hoping they can perform with expectations, because they will be as high as they've been since '10.

I hate to ever say this, but I do expect 9+ wins next year, and if we have improvement/consistency from the Oline, Ott and/or King return, and we stay reasonably healthy....10+ and another crack at the B1G. God help me.

Just an utter embarrassment, the was zero semblance of any game plan whatsoever. Did Ferentz realize mccaffery was the best player in the country and maybe you should try to keep the ball away from him. Stanfords defense knew exactly what was coming, no shots downfield, no screens passes, why attempt to keep them honest. It's like Ferentz got back in the good graces of hawk fans and mailed in the Rose bowl like he did the previous 5 seasons after 10 yr contract extension. I'm just sick for those fans that went out there, all that money and the worst experience imaginable. Firing is not extreme imo, but this debacle warrants no extension. Completely different team that went 12-1. Shameful bowl performances in the last 4 outings.

My wife and I were there, and I still feel like someone punched me in the stomach. I guess I didn't really expect us to win, but I didn't expect to see the debacle that unfolded. I am not saying that any amount of coaching adjustments would have changed the outcome, but they almost surely would have reduced the magnitude of this disaster. What was so distressing was to see Kirk 1.0 again - and again. It seemed to start to rear itself again around midseason. And now it results in a mega disaster on national TV.

Iowa's fans deserved better than this. The fans- not Ferentz and his coaching cronies -are the heart and soul of this football program. Ferentz - in the sincerest of terms - needs to address and thank the Hawkeye faithful for spending the thousands of dollars to go to L.A. and support this team. I truly believe he takes the fans for granted.

I saw firsthand the immense numbers and diversity of Hawkeye Nation - old, young, the disabled, children, teenagers, "tween" agers, toddlers, infants. For 4 days I heard "Let's go Hawks!!" echoing in hotels, restaurants, in downtown Los Angeles, on buses, and on the USS Iowa battleship. I think the Iowa fans deserved better than the monstrous blow-out they witnessed in the Rose Bowl...

OK, I am going to say it. Iowa's players looked like they didn't even really want to be there. The Iowa sideline looked like a funeral directors' convention even before the game was out of reach. What in the name of whatever are the roles of the team captains? There needed to be, among other things, players getting into other players' faces to at least try to kindle some amount of fire that is called pride..

Stanford is good, no doubt about it. Very good. If Stanford hadn't called off the dogs, I think they would have rung up 77 points on us...

Please don't feed this Cyclone troll. I was at the game. It was a tremendous thrill. This was a championship team and one I will never forget. Sometimes you simply run up against a better team. That was the case against Stanford.

Well done Hawks....and this OP troll can shove it

You say championship team... What championship did we win? Are you referring to our division? We did nothing but prove the national pundits right. They said we didn't beat anyone all year, and they were correct. MSU was horribly overrated. Northwestern.. Same thing. Who else was a great win? Wisconsin?

Yes, was terrible bowl game and entire team poorly prepared for the challenge. Was sad to end it this way.
Yes we were overrated.

Can only hope that this type of loss leaves a bitter taste that no one coming back next year wants to taste again.

For me the one bad apple does not spoil the whole bunch. I really enjoyed the Hawks winning, overachieving, and getting to B10 champ game. Was fun season for a change, and I didn't turn a tap. I give credit to the old and young guys that provided a lot of gain for this program in a single season.

Did I mention how I was really glad I had not decided to attend the Rose Bowl? In fact I do not know if I ever want to go to that bowl if Iowa is playing in it. Simple case of self preservation.
