Good question. I would suggest any trophy created post mass TV coverage (somewhere in the early 90s)...is questionable. They may be approved on an individual basis. Land Grant might make the cut as Penn St's entry into the B1G created a new "rivalry" as they were designated "rivals" for the final regular season game.
The Heartland is an example of a contrived trophy. Iowa and Wisconsin have been playing for 100 years. If no theme or story around a the creation of a trophy hasn't emerged by then...don't fabricate one. Floyd has a great history, the old oaken bucket does as well, The little brown jug, etc.
Let me sit down for this one. Are you saying that brainstorming sessions in the board room at Hy-Vee or at the Iowa Corn Growers Association isn't the organic creation of a football trophy? You're nuts, bruh.
