Scott Dochterman on Pearl

This really shouldn't be a shock to anybody. Iowa needs to get the best assistant coach in the country IMO. A guy that is the #1 recruiter for his program with tons of connections. Iowa needs a huge talent upgrade and they never were going to get Pearl anyway so IMO go for the next best thing.

You should probably be worrying about who ISU is going to get after McDermott gets canned next year, shouldn't you?

I'm just throwing out a successful program. How about an assistant for Pitt? UCONN? Maryland?

I understand where you're coming from, but I think an assistant coach is the last thing Iowa really wants right now, no matter where they come from or who they may be.

Our last two hires have had limited HC experience, and I doubt they would wanna hire someone w/ even less. Not to mention the majority of the fans could not name one assistant coach in the nation right now (therefore, no interest generated outside of the intense fans)

Am I worrying about Iowa? Your obsession with me is funny. You are the only one in this thread that has a problem with me. I'm not saying anything that others aren't

And fyi I am worrying about ISU! :(

NO WAY..Iowa is way better than the second fiddle off someone elses staff. Iowa needs a proven leader that can recruit. Get the athletes that can play a style of Basketball that will fill the seats. Someone with a little fire under shoes. I like Lon Kruger.

Lick is like Mac in that he never coached at a major conference as an assistant before taking the job at Iowa. You need to know what it is like to coach in a big time conference. An assistant knows that.

Now if you can find a mid major coach with success and has a background of being a high level assistant for a big time school.....sign him up

Way better? I think you need somebody that can recruit. That is the #1 criteria. Iowa needs a talent upgrade bad.

A proven winner that can recruit? Good luck. Those guys are tough to land and likely not coming to IC.

Kansas took a chance on an assistant coach from UNC by the name of Roy Williams. How'd that work out?

I think Iowa should have decent luck getting someone because it appears there will be no great or elite programs with vacancies. Off the top of my head Oregon and St. John's maybe are about the best that are/could possibly have an opening and, besides Oregon's facilities (if they even allow bball players to partake :)) and St. John's Big East affiliation, are not too much better if at all than Iowa's position. I could be forgetting some schools too but this is just off the top of my head.

However, that could also mean less good coaches out there.

I don't understand the purpose of this post. Are you trying to call him out by pointing that out? Because he was the one saying to hire an assistant from a good program.

Joe Dooley would be my #3 after calls to Bruce Pearl and Jay Wright. (which are both pipe dreams)

Dooley has great AAU connections and has worked under one of the best coaches in the country.

Keith Murphy said two sources told him the same thing: that Bruce Pearl isn't interested. If two reporters are saying it then it is probably true. Of course, they are rumors but they also seem to be true in Hawkeye Nation. All these sources about Lick being gone were certainly true.
