Schwartz: Bleak Outlook for Hawkeyes in Ames

I don't get all this we must have at least a dozen completions or we lose. Heck those ummmmm is it Army or Navy that threw 2 passes and neither one was completed and blew the team out. The clowns are not a juggernaut!
Are you serious? Army and Navy run the triple option flexbone, Brian runs more of a "one option bonehead" offense. Their QBs consistently rush for 200 yards per game. Nate rushed for -23 and two fumbles.

I fully expect ISU to load the box and force Iowa to throw. That is why I think we need to be successful throwing to win. I also expect ISU to score; they are much better than Wyoming. Success passing will let Wadley wear them down later in the game.

ISU wont load the box for very long.

When you watched the ISU game last night what was it that made you SEE that they are better than Wyoming? I watched the game. Did you?

The hope is spreading outside of Ames I guess. Only at ISU does finally beating a mediocre FCS team mean you are "back."

I dont understand why anyone would feel the game is bleak. We had an offense doing things we havent seen since....HF. We were unpredictable. Execution was an issue for sure. Makes me wonder what practices look like. Crap we won an ugly game going away. We made the other team look worse than we did ourselves.

I did watch the game. Their defense and running games are much improved. Park isn't great but he has more weapons than Allen. If this is another lopsided win for Iowa I will be very happy.

How is Iowa states defense much improved? They gave up 400 yards and 24 points to a really bad UNI team.

Bleak is a pretty strong word to use after one game. If this were game 12 of the season with a 40 point loss then things are bleak. The Iowa seniors have won the last two in a row against ISU and the one loss was a 3 pointer on an end of game field goal when freshmen. There are some very good seniors on this years squad and they are 20 and 7 over the last two years. I believe this bodes well.

The question around quarterback play has everyone's expectations in check and rightfully so. It effects the entire offense when you lack experience at a critical position. But is it bleak? There were enough positives from the QB position to warrant at least some optimism.

I have never been a fan of Schwartz's articles. They usually revolve around negative events or include negative thinking.

I had 3-0 in the non-con. I think we're better than ISU. But, we've been before and lost. I'm concerned but I usually am going over there.

I see Illinois, MN and PU as probably wins. The rest we're even or dogs. Can't stub our toe at ISU.

Bleak is not strong enough. Iowa City is hopelessly in despair, there is no greater anxiety in the world right now than what Hawkeye fans are feeling in anticipation of the game against Iowa State.

I'm surprised we haven't heard more about the performance of IOWA's secondary. After wide receiver, that was supposed to be a big area of concern, especially with Rugamba out for Wyoming. I thought they played pretty solid against a QB who can exploit weaknesses. The front 7 is tough as hell.

We don't need the offense to win the game in Ames...just play solid and eliminate the turnovers. (How often do you turn the ball over 4 times and win by 3 TDs?!). I think they'll clean up the missed communication and WTF?! stuff this week and we'll have more success running against ISU's weak front 7. Do that...and we win.

If we have the same offensive hiccups and stumbles... the Kirk v ISU scar could be uglier.

Well last week we were going to have a tough time containing a future NFL quarterback. How did that go? Now next week since we play a inferior quarterback (compared to JA) they say we won't be able to keep up with their receivers. Let's see how this turns out.

Because of their new age mediocre program to be successful PS4 passing attack which Iowa doesn't have and while Wyoming does have they just suck worse at being mediocre than ISU???

I expect a close game. Towards the end of their season ISU showed dramatic improvement against some pretty good teams and battled them down to the wire. If Stanley can cut down on a few mistakes then I have Iowa winning by ten or more. However if Stanley comes out and has a couple of turnovers then the coin flips to ISU's favor, but only because it's on their home field. In Iowa City Stanley could make a mistake and still survive.
