Say something nice

It was a perfect game for this board- get to bitch and moan about Brian for 90% of the game, and then we get a healthy dose of hope when we pull it off in dramatic fashion at the end......

I always try to think of two plays before they get to the LOS. I look at the set and think if I'd change from them. Brian was on my wavelength last night. I thought he called a damned good game given the circumstances. People get pissed about the play calling but at the end of the day there is just so little you can do with a team that has 3 WRs who can't catch, two best RBs out, best TE out and the starting QB out. Part of what makes the Brian situation so hard for me is that I can see him actually making a fairly high percentage of what I would consider "good calls" but the talent on the offensive side of the ball is just so bad there's little you can do. Of course someone has to fall on the sword for the talent level, but the Xs and Os were there last night. You know sometimes a coordinator gets bailed out of a bad call by some player balling out and making a play, Brian Ferentz does not really have that luxury at Iowa.

I think Iowa often plays its best ball when faced with severe adversity when Kurt just turns it over to the OC. Pitt 2011 where O'Keefe had JVB ball the hell out was amazing. 2004 when we were down to the sixth string tailback and O'Keefe had a carte blanche on passing and running Drew Tate. This could be a special year, fellas.

Higgins tackle count is increasing like a hot slot machine..........62 for the season now.....................and Jackson isn't far behind
Any doubts that we could recover from losing Campbell and others at the LB position are completely out the window now.

While the numbers are still somewhat skewed by the amount of plays our defense has been on the field, those numbers are becoming more and more impressive on their own merit.

I simply cannot figure out why our D cannot set an edge consistently. Come on, Coach Parker! However, they did not give up a TD.

It's weird watching Iowa games on D. Sometimes it feels like we are getting rolled on. But then you look up at the scoreboard and the stats and that's not even close to the case. He's got some magic voodoo or some shit.

If Iowa somehow manages to win 10 games without their starting QB, starting TE and down their top 2 RB's... I'll at worst be impressed.

I was worried that Phil would be pissed that the offense sucks, gave up 7 points on the fumble return, and makes his job a lot tougher. I guess not. This is about as happy as I've ever seen him.

This was an issue between Norm and Ken back in the day. Norm wanted the offense to take the air out of the ball and O'Keefe had to throttle back his offense to keep the defense rested. Phil is just pissed that his unit is getting sent right back out there.

All showed up for a half with some pretty important plays.

Jay Higgins is really laying the wood on players. He laid the wood and caused the crucial fumble. I would NOT want to get hit by that man.

Hill plays with confidence and he's healthy

Maybe our coaches will learn the obvious after seeing all the WR drops., to be good at something...you have to do it a lot. reps...reps....reps....

D is improving. X had a nice game.

We're home again next week, should help Deacon and the O get in synch.

Look, I'm seeing guys on here already comparing Hill to Tom Brady and I want to throw in one more fact. A few years ago Brady got suspended for a few games over some balls not being properly inflated or something. It wasn't a punishment, it helped him because he showed in week 5 when everyone was already beaten up and it was like Brady was a brand new man out there. I think Deacon is in that same boat right now, guy is fresh and hasn't been destroyed behind our porous o-line for 4 weeks.
