running back rotation

I think today was just a reminder to me that Weisman is our best RB.

He has his limitations but seems to be the most productive when healthy and it appears that Kirk is going to do what he can to keep him healthy.

By not playing him, thereby intentonally negating his best offensive weapon? Seems like a brilliant strategy.
 
Our running game blows. Wisconsin has more yards rushing in their first drive than we probably had in the entire outback bowl. Scherff looked marginal today.
 
Weisman's pros and cons are well known. He is a strong runner. Weisman has the best balance after getting hit of any back of I have ever seen at Iowa. So he most likely to gain some extra yards after getting hit. he also is good at finding the hole in the line and hits that hole quickly.

But he is not a good receiver. And he gets hurt a lot. He also is just not that guy who can outrun the defense when he breaks into the secondary.
 
Iowa rushed for 155 for the game, the running backs accounted for 99 of them.

Wisconsin rushed for 180 in the first half against LSU

Nebraska rushed for nearly 500 yards

They did this against greater competition.

Michigan played Appy State who is in the same division as UNI. They rushed for 350

OSU-194, Indiana-455, Maryland 285, Purdue 226, Minny 182, Sparty 211, Rutgers 215.

UNI is better than FAU, App State, Indiana State, Jacksonville State, Eastern Illinois, Western Michigan and James Madison.

The gap between your perception and how crummy the talent some of these teams listed above played against is mind blowing.
 
Agree about Daniels making questionable decisions. But to learn he needs more carries. He obviously has the talent and physical abilities and has been impressive in camp, otherwise Ferentz would not have deviated from his plan to redshirt him.

Actually, Jacksonville St. is ranked ahead of UNI in FCS. Plain and simple: Weisman is and should be the Fullback, he can still get his rushes from there. Daniels and Canzeri are true tailbacks and we need to get them touches.

Just curious is this because you say so or because you know that all 7 of these teams have worse defenses than UNI, because that is what we are talking about specifically?

As for the teams listed above I do know that both Eastern Ill and Jackson State are ranked ahead of UNI in polls..

As far as uni's running back goes yes is is ok. How many rushing yards did he get? 35 maybe. Seems a little under par for a noback. Receiving yards. Over 200. He is fast and probably good considering our lb's were lost most of the game. Wish him the best for the rest of the year and hopes he do e s make it in the nfl.
 
If I had to choose who I think is the best all around back at this point I would choose Canzeri. He looks a little stronger than he was before and looks like he now can break a tackle and take a hit. He also looks like are quickest running back and most allusive running back If were talking power back then that would go to Weismann.

What are you talking about? They did pound Weisman at the end of the game. That was one of the smarter things that the coaching staff did. Keep Weisman fresh and healthy for the end of the game, and then if we are ahead pound the ball, grind it out, and keep the clock running.
