Ruh-roh Re: Delano Hill

Just food for thought again, but Texas has had 4 recruits de-commit this year including a 4* TE.

Texas still has 8 - 4* players still commited, plus a 5* player as well.

Iowa had 2 - 4* players commited, now only 1 which no 5* players.

Texas can afford to lose a few of their top end recruits and they still have a chance to poach another team's commits or pick up some still on the board. Iowa doesn't have that luxury, reality sucks.

what I think he is saying is that TX as good as they are, lose players. to think Iowa can't lose a top player is silly.
besides Hill has not left yet

Reality is that he hasn't decommitted. And we can't pick anyone up? That Gourdine visited us the day after decommitting from Cincy. We may not be able to do as much as Texas, but saying it doesn't happen here is wrong.

HH, I am not saying that he has, I for one don't think he will decommit. But we won't know for sure until he signs on the dotted line in February.

My point is in reality Iowa can't recoup a lose of a high end recruit this late in the game as EASILY as Texas, if you believe so then that is your opinion but to me that is a pretty obvious reality.

I agree that a loss of a high profile recruit late in the process is more damaging to Iowa, for sure. I was just saying that Iowa can pick up replacements from decommits at other schools that are solid. Now it doesn't happen here as much as places like Texas, I was saying that it does happen here.

I think they can get "solid" replacements but I don't know why maybe I am reading too much into the recruiting hype but I think Delano Hill could be a great addition to this team. Heck maybe he sticks with Iowa and doesn't pan out, he could be a Jordan Bernstine with injuries or he could be a Nico Law and struggle with pass coverage.

This is what I hate about recruiting, I think too many people get way to over hyped about players. You seem a little more level-headed about imcoming recruits/commits. Me on the other hand, I see these highlight films and read what the scouts say and get way to excited that they are going to be program changers.

Plus for me I love offense and putting up points but I love to follow defensive recruiting more because Iowa is known for defense and I can't wait for the defense to get back on track and return to it's dominating ways.

FWIW Ferentz has always been in favor of an early signing period for several reasons. The current D. Hill episode is one of those reasons.

You can't ignore our recent rekindling of interest in the Cincy kid and it's timing with what is going on with MI & Hill. Hopefully Ferentz is not playing hardball with Hill at this point but otherwise why another DB? I don't recall him saying he wanted to use the few remaining schollies for another DB.

He said they were focusing on playermakers, people who can put points on the board and LB's.

But like you said it could the timing and the rise of concern with other commits (Hill) cause them to be reactive sometimes.

I also think Hill is going to be something special. I don't feel he will back out. He has said this class feels like a family, a few guys from his HS team are here, and we have been with him for a long while now. Mich is only now showing interest. If he wanted to be somewhere else I honestly feel we would have heard by now. I could be wrong.

Ever notice that alot of kids say this about why they chose Iowa?

You know some kids want a particular school for education, some for traditional, but a lot of kids seem to say they like Iowa because it "feels like a family".

And as the story unfolds, Hill is now scheduled to visit Michigan.

Why not? He gets to 5 official visits, IMO any kid who doesn't take all 5 is cheating himself. Free dinner, weekend away from the family and spending time with new people on a college campus, sounds like a blast to me.

Maybe he goes, maybe he loves it more than Iowa so be it. He has to do what is best for him.
