I have Marble in the lineup, nobody is unseating him, the fact is that White is a better player than McCabe and Basabe, those two will be great role players off the bench. The effect may be that Olaseni may be on the short end of playing time as I think Woodbury will play quite a bit even if he doesn't start. The improvement of Olaseni is what will determine who gets the least playing time and I really think Meyer will be redshirted.
You think Oglesby is one-dimensional and McCabe isn't?
McCabe cannot pass, his dribbling skills are not much better than May's, but he can shoot the three ball. He also struggles catching the ball on the move, or in traffic. You really think he is a better option on the wing than Oglesby because he shoots better? If you think Oglesby can't play defense either apparently you haven't been watching McCabe, he can't defend big guys not moving his feet, how do you think he will defend any player he plays against on the wing? Don't think I am overreacting, I just don't agree with you at all. I like McCabe in the role of playing on the 2nd unit to provide all kinds of matchup issues with other teams 4/5 players. That is where he can be utilized with his quality shooting and running the floor.
Look, he has started a lot of games for Iowa, but is he a guy that you can look at and watch play and think he is a starter in the BIG? If you do, then you absolutely do not agree with me and that is okay. Here is another thing to think about, who is the better player when both are on...McCabe or Basabe...Basabe...who has a bigger impact on the team when they play well McCabe or Basabe...Basabe. I have no issues with Zach other than a group of fans that think he is better than he really is and that comes from being not very good and having little to no viable options. Iowa needs a player like McCabe to make an NCAA tourney run, but he cannot be a guy that you can depend for a night in and night out performance of worth because he hasn't done it in his career yet and he has played a ton.
Hands down Oglesby is the best passer of any of the returning players and it isn't even close, his problem early in the season was players weren't looking for the ball...I remember one that hit McCabe in the face and another that went right by Basabe in the same game. Oglesby had good ball handling ability and he has a nice turnaround jumpshot from 14/16 ft. He will make a big leap from year 1 to year 2.
Iowa's outside shooting will be improved with Gesell on board and when Oglesby makes his leap from year 1 to year 2. He watched what it takes to be a player in the BIG by watching how hard Gatens worked. I don't think he took that lightly by watching how well Gatens played last season. The other thing that Ogelsby has going for him is that he is highly intelligent basketball player, that could be the most important factor for him when all is said and done.
Marble had a 2/1 A/T ratio playing a lot of PG last year. JO could be 2nd best returning passer.
One thing I did notice out of PTL stats was how well McCabe and JO shot the 3-ball. IF one of them is shooting well, they'll see a lot of minutes.
