Rose Bowl: Must Win.

I've been thinking about this game quite a bit. We played extremely well against MSU and if that holding penalty is called against their Center on Jewell, I think we win. Having said that....

We need to win this game.

I was one of the naysayers, I thought 5-7 was where we were going to be after watching the Hawkslayer bowl last year, many were probably right along there with me.

If we don't win, the jerkoff pundits like David Pollack and King Delta Bravo Colin Cowturd have all the ammo they need to say we didn't beat anyone with a pulse in 2015, and to a certain degree they are correct. You could argue our dominating win of jNW was good win, but it didn't raise any eyebrows on a national basis.

A win on January 1 sends the guys into the next year with a lot of moxie(SP)? It gets the nation talking about lunch pail, "break the rock" Iowa football we experienced 12 years ago.

Face it, despite the team exceeding all our expectations this year sans Hawknick (God rest his troll soul) it's going to be a long winter for us and the guys if we don't beat at least one really good football team after what we put together this year.

Well I believe hawknick was trolling to an absurd level of 12-0 but it turned out to be correct. But that being said a Rose Bowl win does bring the cache of:

13-1 season regular

A huge bowl win

A 3-3 Rose Bowl record

Great national recognition that may bring in some more recruits

a huge bump going into off season workouts, spring and August camp.

I wish Jon would just say who he was so clueless people could catch up. I'm not sure what the point of being secretive about that kind of thing is. Maybe for the same reason they don't show field rushers on tv.

5 years from now, everybody will remember the great season and the 13-1 or 12-2 record that came out of nowhere. Nobody will give a damn what the "experts" like Cowpie or Finebrain said.

The first 12 games were must win to get to the 13th game and to get a top bowl bid in the event we didn't win the 13th game. The 13th game was a must win to get to the semifinals. The bowl game is not a must win, but it sure would be thrilling to finally win the Rose Bowl.

I'll add to that, that Cowpie & Finebrain aren't really going to say much if Iowa wins or loses. They used Iowa as much as they could to bolster their shows up til Iowa's loss. They could care less now & won't really comment, IMO.

I can't believe some people think those media types are going to continue to hang on everything Iowa does. They are opportunistic and the Iowa subject does them little now.

It might not January 2nd, but a win over Stanford does change the tone in August, and helps solidify what looks to be some great commitments in the recruiting arena.
 
Cowherd, et. al., won't even be talking about us if we win. The game is on Friday. Cowherd and Friends will have a weekend worth of NFL and the CFP semi-final games to hide behind.

If we lose? Cowherd will tweet the remaining bandwidth full-out and close Twitter down, I'm sure.

Either way, he'll STILL be a d-bag that gets WAY more mention here than he has any right to expect.
