Rose Bowl: Must Win.

Hate to say this, but the rose bowl is the opposite of a must win.

It is an exhibition that pretty much means absolutely nothing.

He came out and said he was wrong about Iowa and that they are very good. He at least has owned up unlike others.

Agreed. Cowhurd on the other hand just dug in his spurs further, and kept spouting idiotic nonsense in the face of facts.

Agree 100% with the OP.

Big big difference to the Iowa program/perception, this year, between 13-1 and 12-2.

The Rose Bowl means nothing? I have to disagree on that opinion. IMO the Rose Bowl is the biggest game of the season, right behind the NC. Plus it the most watched bowl game once again just right behind the NC game. Go Hawks!

He did. Hawknick was Ghost

Who was ghost??? Just kidding but we do have several new posters on here that don't know who you are talking about.

Who is Jon Miller? Does he have an alt? Actually I wouldn't have a problem if Jon wanted to make this a really serious forum by making everyone put their real names out for every to see and the city they live in. I think a lot of personal attacks and fake bravado would come to an end.

I had a poster put my real name out on the Hawk Forum when Hawk Central had a forum. I didn't mind as I played a small part in getting a signed football (all of the Iowa football coaches) to a young boy with cancer. I had that ball in my possession for a couple of months before hooking up with the boy's doctors for a special gift to that young man. My heart goes out to all of you that have these types of challenges (cancer, special needs, disabled) in your families. Been there done that and still dealing with it. The Hawkeye family is made up of some really great people. We can all take satisfaction in knowing that.

Jon if your reading this have you ever considered it? Having members post their real names like you and Rob do?

That would be impossible to implement and manage, and most people would leave. You and a few others might think it's ok and maybe even like it, but the reality is that less users = less ad traffic. I don't know about you, but there's no way I'd even consider being a member of a forum like that. Not because of the content of my posts, but because all it takes is some disgruntled troll to make your life miserable.

The whole verified ID thing has been tried many times and the results are almost always disasterous for sites. The way to manage personal attacks and false bravado (which are almost nonexistent here by "normal" internet standards) is by using mods. Is it foolproof? Of course not.

Look at it another way, if people were ok giving their full name why wouldn't they just do it in the first place? Hate to break it to you but the reason Internet forums exist isn't because a group of like-minded individuals want to get together and talk [insert topic here], it's because they can post anything they want anonymously and get away with it. If things go bad somehow they just walk away.

That's a awesome thing you and the others did for that little boy with cancer!

It is an exhibition that pretty much means absolutely nothing.

It is a measure of the health of the Iowa program and as such helps talented young men decide they would prefer to play for us. It's also a huge stage under very bright lights with millions of eyeballs glued to the Iowa Hawkeye football team for three hours. Its an opportunity to go 13-1 against a premium-level opponent. It keeps us in the media circulation. It's an excuse for the old timers to dig those beautifully awful "Hayden hats" out of the back of their closets and wear them with pride once again. So if you haven't figured it out yet, I respectfully disagree with your position, sir.

Hey, I am a huge hawkeye fan and will be there like most of you.

Still, if you take off the hawkeye rose colored glasses, this game really doesn't mean a whole lot.

Sure, winning would be nice, and maybe help keep some momentum going into next year and with recruiting.

But really? The game doesn't mean a whole lot. As long as we don't get shellacked.

I think the Iowa coaches and players would wholeheartedly disagree with you. In your view that would mean there are really only 4 teams still playing in games that aren't "meaningless exhibitions".

I agree with the OP.

This game has weight on national respect and recruiting. Sure we are not playing in the CFP, but right now as a program and where it was at a year ago this is a pretty big bowl game. I would say KFs biggest to date.

This game has a ton of meaning. Yeah it probably is a drop off in importance from the B1G championship game in Indy but on a national perspective it will be talked about a lot, this year and next and other than the CFP bowl games it and the Fiesta Bowl will lead the discussion. It is to our advantage to have played in the B1G championship game as the players will have seen and felt the exposure from the national media. Go Hawks and Just Win Baby!

I realize we're being over run by Bowls however to say the Rose Bowl is not a big deal is insane.Only game on at that time, nationally broadcast is huge.We need to make a good showing and yes I hope we win the game.Go Hawks

I don't know why people always talk about hiding behind a username. Do people think Kirk would track down the people talking sh!t if he knew their real names?

The game means a lot to me. I'm looking forward to it. How many times have I tuned into the roesebowl on NY Day and thought ' wow, what a great setting, what a great atmosphere, what a great honor, what a great spectacle, wouldn't it be great for Iowa to be good enough to be there! '

And here they are.

Yes, I know the players and coaches obviously take it seriously and want to win.

But I will also say that yes, ALL bowl games are meaningless except for the 4 playoff games.

Sorry, but they just are. If you want to have a "momentum" debate or whatever, I get that.

But, in the grand scheme of things, bowl games are meaningless.
