Rome killing Iowa

I want to see a link on this. I can't believe ND, Hook em Horns, etc. wouldn't be more recognizable than Iowa.
When I see a Texas helmet I think of salad dressing. Nobody can look at Michigan's helmet without immediately thinking of Deleware. The boxing mick only brings a mental association with the NBC peacock.

The Hawkeyes had a cameo in that movie in which the pulling guard broke the star LBs leg after the LB was talking smack at the line of scrimmage about the guard messing around with the LBs sister. This clearly makes Iowa the most recognizable non-letter logo.

Jim Rome has made a fortune being abrasive and outspoken. He is a genius because he has little to no talent but has carved out a nice career. The first time I had ever heard of him was the Jim Everett incident and have not wasted a second listening to him since then.

If you have not listened to him in 20 years, how do you know he has no talent and is abrasive?

Ghost wins the thread. Rome gets old after about 3 minutes of him repeating the same thing over and over, but his takes on Softball Guy, Fantasy Football Guy and others are actually pretty good (save for the constant repetition of the same point, but that is necessary when you have several hours of air time to fill).

I would agree with you if that legend was true...but it's not. In only lives in the minds of, well, butt hurt Iowa fans who use it as a target when they feel the media is picking on them.

Ghost,

Sorry but Iowa losing to CMU isn't a national story. I could give two ***** who he rips on but I didn't hear DP or Cowherd ripping on Iowa yesterday did you? Sorry but he still holds a grudge against KF, that's fine it's his show and he is obviously free to do what he wants but if you honestly think he still doesn't hold some resentment to KF and Iowa you are blind. It isn't like Iowa was ranked or even picked to finish in the top half of it's own division this year.

Or did I miss the segment of Rome ripping on UConn for losing to Western Michigan or Kansas getting beat by Northern Illinois. It's basically the same thing.

I don't listen to sports talk radio anymore, so I don't have a horse in this fight.

Still, the fact that you think he holds a 10 year grudge against Iowa, despite the fact I have heard him speak kindly of Iowa in the subsequent decade while I did have time to listen to him, speaks more about you.

And face it, my claim has as much evidence to back it up as yours, but according to Occam's Razor, mine is more likely to be correct.

Good point, similar to you Rome tries to be controversial because this is the only way people pay attention to him, Stephen A Smith and Skip Bayless do the same, they yell and argue because they lack the talent of a Michael Wilborn or Dan Patrick, To be honest I have never watched or listened to his show, so I may be wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion,

You're right about Smith and Bayless, but wrong about Rome.

Similar to you, Smith and Bayless make stupid, declarative judgements on topics they admittedly have no knowledge of.

Rome didn't give Iowa "serious props" he used us as an excuse to rip on Tech and their coach, probably for the exact reasons he takes so much joy in ripping Iowa. It's a fact that Rome hates Iowa...well, Kirk...but it's not like the Hawks didn't throw him a hanging curve ball this time around.

I believe Rome's exact words were: "They ran into a buzz saw last night with that Iowa defense. That was a big win for Iowa" But I agree, Rome hates Ferentz which in turn gives him pleasure in ripping Iowa.

Rome's hatred of Ferentz has permeated through to our recruiting. Bince Ferentz turned him down, our program has been on a pretty big slide. We would be Alabama good had he gone on the show.

Rome loves taking pot-shots at Iowa since KF turned down an invite to be on his show back in 2002 I believe.. Otherwise, why would Rome even bother to give a program like Iowa the time of day on his show? I can't say the criticism is unwarranted, though.

This. Criticism is certainly warranted, but there's no logical reason for Rome to rip on a team like Iowa right now. It's like ripping on Indiana. Why not pick bones with Wisconsin, Michigan State, or Ohio State? They all won, but struggled mightily with teams that were wildly overmatched (on paper, anyway). And Illinois was housed on their home field by LA Tech. A lot of choices out there, yet Rome (once again) picks on Iowa.

The national media as a whole does not have some kind of grudge against Iowa. But Rome clearly does, and he takes every opportunity to make that clear.

Did you hear what he said about Iowa yesterday?

The big ten has fallen below the ACC. Iowa is crappy in a crappy conference. Rome should be ripping Iowa and the entire big ten. Its pathetic.

I have to go soon, so I'll just answer the question for you. No, you didn't listen to it. If you did, you'd know his rant was not about Iowa, but about the Big 10 being awful at football. He lifted up the Iowa loss as a sign of how far things have fallen, but he also went after Illinois hard, as well as Wisconsin, MSU, and OSU.

Here is what he said about Iowa...tell me if he is out of bounds or singling us out to pick on us...

"I’m not looking to do this every week, but the Big Ten isn’t leaving me any choice. Just when you think it can’t get any more embarrassing for that Conference, Iowa goes out and chokes against Central Michigan. No disrespect to the Chippewas…but, that can’t happen. Iowa cannot lose to a directional school. Ever. For any reason. It’s an utter embarrassment to them. And the Conference they represent. The Big Ten has had plenty of terrible losses in recent years and this one is right near the top of the list."

He is totally correct. The big ten is an embarrassment. I never thought I would envy the ACC for football talent, but I do.
