Rittenberg Picks the Hawks/Bennett Likes MSU

I don't understand how any of you could argue against his prediction. The game will be low scoring and won by the defense's. If our offense can manage 2-3 touchdowns, Iowa wins easy. This will be the best defense Iowa will see all year IMO.

This thread is the epitome of Iowa football fans. 4 weeks ago this team was the worst in the B1G, now there are jagoffs who think Iowa is the best team in the B1G and there's no chance they could lose to MSU, even going so far as to bash an analyst that thinks MSU has a shot at beating Iowa.

Bunch of GD morons running around this place.

Iowa's offense can play at a high level, and they haven't played their best game yet! Still they tend to sputter against inferior competition. Hawks didn't score much against ISU due to penalties and turnovers. Maybe I'm a delutional hawk fan but I thought they should have scored more on Minny than they did. The drives ended in T/Os or a negative play which set them back.

High ceiling and lot of upside remains to Iowa's O.

What makes him wrong is this "I think Michigan State's defense can slow down Mark Weisman" They could not last year when it counted. No one has this year either. Let's see him try to tackle Mark Weisman. Iowa has something, MSU does not. He thinks they can magically come up with something just because they have two weeks to think about it, wrong.

Weisman was held to 70 yards on 20 carries through 3 quarters. Michigan State had a pretty damn good handle on him last year, and their defense is even better this year. It's hardly a stretch to think they can slow down Weisman, since that's exactly what they did a year ago (slow down, is not the same as stop).

This has been a VERY closely contested series over the past several years. Given the teams' history and style of play, I actually think it's pretty fitting that they split on the picks.

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that most of the posts in this thread are people arguing about a post that somebody made that seemed to clearly be sarcastic. To top it off, an obnoxiously large picture was posted in this thread to clue everyone in that the post was sarcastic, but it was either ignored, or not understood.

Am I close? Bennett is an complete jack***, and Rittenberg it is the smartest man who has ever lived. This just confirms it.

Well Indiana slowed the Hawks down for 3 quarters in 2009....who cares? The game is 4 quarters, brah.

Weisman ran for over 100 yards against them last year. That isnt really slowing anybody down.

This part is getting overblown a bit by nearly everybody. In the last four years, there have been 2 close games, and two that were not close at all. The last two games in Iowa City have not been close, with the two teams splitting. That said, I do expect a close game.

Remember what MSU did to Shonn Greene? Couldn't tackle him clean so the cheap shots started. Don't put anything past Sparty here to try to slow down Weisman. I know it's old hat to talk fake injuries and cheap hits with MSU but there is some truth to it. This is going to be a slugfest. It will come down to turnovers, field position and special teams. I hope we come out of this with no injuries and a close win.
Dont except to see much of Canzeri or Daniels at RB either - and if we do it's only becasue the first 2 guys are nicked up or hurt. Ball control will be key and both Canzeri and Daniels have shown they can fumble. Sparty's D is for real and they are in your jersey in coverage and get upfield against the run.

They held him under his average ypc. He had to seriously work to get those 100 yards. That sounds like slowing someone down to me.

The bottom line is that if their defense has improved, maybe Weisman doesn't have the big 4th quarter (which was really only the product of one big play. 37 of his 46 4th quarter yards came on one play, while he picked up 9 yards on his other 5 carries) this time around. It's not some kind of travesty to think that could happen.

It will be a close game and several games have been decided by 7 points or less, including an OT game a few years back and double OT last year. Michigan State has had one of the weakest schedules in the nation so their D has yet to be contested. With that said, Iowa is not going to blow out anyone on their schedule. Both teams have a solid defense which should limit the offenses from scoring. I would give Iowa a slight edge with the offense and special teams. Iowa should win since they are in Kinnick. Some of you would cry if the ESPN bloggers pick Iowa to lose to Oregon or Alabama. Take off your homer glasses and sit back and enjoy a slugfest of a game and hope Iowa comes out with the W.

You really think that Iowa is so good that anyone who would pick MSU in this game does so because of a bias or complete ignorance? I don't know what season you are watching but its not the one Im watching.
Well let's see here, Iowa's offense is lighting people up. We have had two excellent receivers emerge. We have a QB that is becoming one of the BoneG's best. We have a running game that no one can slow down. And you're telling me we can't score on a team that gave up 14 to Western Michigan?

MARK THIS DOWN. Iowa scores over 20, and MSU is not within 10 points the entire 2nd half. The only prayer MSU has is that they suddenly find an vertical passing game, which they won't. This is going to be a cake walk for the Hawks, and I don't expect a biased, idiotic, ESPiN "expert" to notice this.

I have called the past two games almost exactly, unlike this idiot, because I understand the game and I know what's going to happen.

Iowa and MSU have played every year since Dantonio was hired. In that time (6 games), 4 games (2007, 2008, 2009, 2012) have been decided by a combined 15 points and two of them have gone to overtime.

These games have been close more often than not, largely because of the style both teams want to play with. Throw that in with the poor weather forecast and the fact that nobody is quite sure what to make of either team just yet, and we're likely looking at more of the same.

I generally respect what you write on here as it's usually pretty well thought out and you seem to stay away from emotional arguments and focus on facts. With that said, you're better than this post. You completely ignored the 4th quarter which is when a back like Weisman and a team like Iowa hope to make hay. You pound the sh!t out of them for 3 quarters and then kick their a$$ in the 4th when they're dead freaking tired. That's exactly what Iowa and Weisman did in that game. This year, with a much better offensive line, a healthier, better conditioned Weisman and a QB that makes better checks and decisions going against a defense that's operating at about the same level as last year, I expect the game to be close for 3 quarters and we pull away in the 4th for a 10 pt win.

Go Hawks!

You calling two games correct against bottom feeders makes you an expert? Iowa has dominated the LOS against garbage teams that is nowhere near the talent of Sparty...When you throw in all of the fake injuries the pace of the game will slow down and fresh defenders will be able to get into the game. Iowa should win the game but they need to fix the leaks in the kickoff coverage because Sparty will exploit it with a solid kick off return team.

This game is going to be an old fashioned field position battle. It is more likely to have the box score of the PSU box years ago than the blowout you are expecting to see.

Iowa wins 19-13
