In his defense, he’s in a long line of Iowa coaches across multiple sports that have done the very same thing. It’s what iowa coaches do. Kind of a rite of passage kind of thingGreat for Riley but honestly this strikes me as the move of a coach who is too lazy or incapable of recruiting better players.

Or aHe still has 2 open ones so at this point all it means is he knows he won't find 3 more good players.
But you whiff at the point. Generally speaking, Iowa doesn’t recruit skill positions in either sport and hasn’t for yrs. So they backfill scholarships through the walk on channels and typical Iowa fan scratches his head in rd two or so of the dance or in a new yrs day bowl game when the band of walk ons finally drag the coaches away from iowa city. Our peers, the other 15-20 schools that pay their coaches as much as we do, support them as much as the state and alum base does and dump as much into facilities and budgets as much as we do....they actually do recruit skill players and hold their coaches accountable. Yes, they have a few walk ons from time to time, but it’s in a significantly different context than Iowa’sFixed it for you.

Again, you fail to grasp the issue. Also, this university may lead America in giving scholarships to athletes that they think are athletes but would really be walk ons everywhere else. You conveniently keep overlooking the football aspect of the conversation as wellI would be really surprised if Iowa gives walk ons scholarships at a higher rate than anyone else in basketball.
