Riley McCarron

I just heard he's turning heads in the Texans' camp and has a good shot to stick with them. Plus, he ran a 4.3 40?

He had a few good moments for Iowa, but I mean, we couldn't have found a way to utilize him more last year?

It just doesn't look good that our passing game was a colossal stink mess last year when we had a guy maybe this good. I know a lot of it was Greg Davis and scheme but still, Kirk doesn't come off looking that good here. And I'm a Kirk supporter btw.

But I know I'm beating a horse to death anyway.

Same thing I thought when I heard he was doing well & getting reps down there. How could we not have used him more. I actually think it was the routes GD had the Iowa guys run. No conducive to success. He didn't utilize the middle of the field, only the outside and short routes. Apparently now in hindsight, the route designs were utter crap. Hopefully BF will go back to some of what KOK was running and utilize the entire freaking field and make the D cover the entire field. Throw down the middle some.

Who wouldn't like Riley? That said, I played some short stop in high school when the normal ss was pitching (he got a football offer from HF).. I was cf otherwise. We had two 1st Basemen. One was pudgy and about 5-7 but could hit home runs. The other was 6-6 and a future college basketball player.

Which one did I feel more confident in throwing too? It made me think about it as I loved to wing it.

I never understood why Tim D never got more touches with HF.

I will be interested to see how this plays out. Every year in the Kansas City Chiefs training camp, regardless of the head coach, there is a player that always gets talked about and there's always a lot of buzz from the coaches, and he was never on the radar before camp. Then training camp breaks and the guy is not even on the practice squad.

This might be that. I just have a hard time believing a guy who caught like five balls at Iowa, before his senior year, is going to play in the NFL. Of course, he did catch over 40 his senior year, so who knows. I just don't see it. Don't give me wrong, I'm pulling for him. I just don't see it.

Agreed, always been a KF guy, but the underutilization of what has been seemingly solid wr talent last few years (i.e McCarron, T. Smith...etc) is a knock I can't defend (OC calls plays but KF hired/retained him). I dont put Willies in the under used group yet. Can only hope we see improvements in pass game....if we do...could surprise everyone. This new group of WR looks promising (B. Smith...looks the part, as do the others.). We will see. With even an avg air game...whoa nelly....

Ugh, I'm in full koolaid mode, like every August...

The Iowa message board community's response to Riley would be a very interesting case study for some psych major.
When he was first named as a starter last year half the message board freaked because here was a short "unathletic" walkon reciever named as a starter when MVB went down.

Now that he posted some insane numbers at the combine all of a sudden he is the mozt under-utilized player.

The way Dwight could block he'd have started 4 years with Kirk.

There's always a place in an NFL offense for a Wes Welker type receiver these days. Plus he ran a 4.3. I'd give him more than a 50% chance of making it.

I am not going to crush people on this one. Of McCarron's 42 catches I remember maybe 10 of them. Iowa's passing game was just that bad. Not going to lie, after the Nebraska game I was wondering why they didn't find ways to get him the ball more. Also, didn't he have a case of the dropsies during a 2 or 3 game stretch?

Exactly...he wasn't known at Iowa as the most sure handed. I can remember on a few seem routes...the ball bounced right off his hands. Now, maybe he's seeing more passes in the pros...at Iowa...he was probably freaked when he was actually targeted. He did make a great catch against ISU in 2015...that's my favorite...CJ put it in a "shoe box" though.

CJ was fantastic that game. One of the best games in his collegiate career. He won it with his legs in the 4th.
