Release: Daniels out for Year, Willies Leaving

For the first time in 16 years, Ferentz gets a tall, fast, tough blocking WR who is ready to play early and should have played most of the snaps. How many other coaches could screw this up?

I hope Ferentz loves him some Vandeberg & McCarron because he's going to be seeing a lot of those two over the next few years.

This guy gets it. When you have Vandy and Mac getting touches that could've gone to Willies, you have a coaching problem, rather than a WR problem.

Just to show the level of hyperbole that is on this site:
2014 receptions
Vandenberg - 4
McCarron- 0
Willies - 4
T Smith - 23
Powell - 12
Martin Manley - 33
Hillyer - 9

So according to people here 4 receptions by Vandenberg is the end of the world.

Does the passing game stink- yep. Are McCarron and Vandenberg stealing receptions from willie- nope.

Receptions do not indicate total reps and targets. He hardly saw the field after making 2 big plays in the opening 2 games. Too much production for KF. Told to work on his blocking I am sure.

We lost pound for pound the best WR we have had in years for absolute stupidity on behalf of KF.

The comment replied to states touches. I do not have anything that states the number of plays in.

You want to discuss facts or emotional guesses as to being the best WR?

If you attend the home games you would know how little he saw the field ... That is a fact.

It was also disingenuous to say Mac has no receptions when he has been used to field punts and kicks. It's intellectually dishonest to say Mac and Vandy should see the field while Willies watches from the bench.

"should he decide to leave IC"............tells me the door is not closed. Certainly there could be some frustration with playing time perhaps but throwing his father's health issue into the mix would be a challenge for many young people to deal with especially with distance involved.

Hope he reconsiders his position with the team down the road.

Do you want a 6'4" long strider fielding punts? Might want to think that one over.

You are at the point of whining for the sake of whining. Enjoy your pity party.

Might be intellectually dishonest to omit the fact he missed a game for injury, but once again that is outside your pity agenda.

Pity party? Are you a girl lying on your belly surrounded by stuffed toys listening to songs from 1963? Was he injured last year when the skinny upgraded walk-on was seeing the field while he was red-shirted? I would tell you to rethink your apologist agenda, but that would require having something to do it with. He might be leaving cuz he's wondering what white-bread walk-on will be ahead of him next year.

Please tell me more about him not fielding punts.

I love days like this. You can spot the football deficient fans in about 5 seconds.

Easy to sort out the whiners and tweeners.

Statement makes it sound like they are going let Willes leave the team for a bit, collect his mind, and perhaps see if will rejoin the team in the spring. Doesn't sound like he is immediately transferring or leaving school. Sounds like a kid that is unhappy, whether justified or due to some emotional immaturity. If he's transferring over playing time, that's dumb. With KMM and Powell graduating he is in line for major playing time next year as a Sophomore.

Hes better than both of them NOW.

Maybe the dudes a problem child Idk but I doubt it. I do know he's the most talented receiver on the team, and probably the most talented Kirks ever had, and Beathard to Willies long balls would have worked all day every day.

But apparently that's not football.

Any one left defending this garbage?

With plenty of talent (that has gone to waste)and an easy ten wins laid out for them they screwed it up. Kirk can't get over his stupid process and just let the talent win games for him.

Im so over this pile of horse crap that is Iowas football program.

Umm ... would like to address a teensy omission on your part. Dunno but might add a whole new perspective ...

RECEIVING GP No. Yards Avg TD Long Avg/G
Bullock, Damon 6 25 206 8.2 0 52 34.3
Willies, D. 5 4 71 17.8 1 46 14.2
Canzeri, Jordan 7 3 66 22.0 0 50 9.4
Weisman, Mark 7 3 24 8.0 0 11 3.4
Plewa, Macon 3 3 12 4.0 0 5 4.0

Bullock has 6 times as many catches, the other RB's & FB have 1 less catch, each. It isn't the other WR's stealing catches, it's the f-ing RB's, to the tune of nearly 9 to 1!

That ain't hyperbole, son. That's a dysfunctional offensive strategy, which, by extension, is a coaching failure.

It's unfortunate to see him leave and surprising to see the announcement happen in the middle of the season. Can't blame the kid if he is leaving because of lack of confidence in his role in Iowa's offense. Don't worry Mr. Willies, Greg Davis doesn't know his role either in the Iowa offense. :)

I want you to run THIS FAR past the line of scrimmage. I know it's 3rd and 8, just do what I say. Yes, literally this far. We're gonna trick 'em, right Jake?

I've got a plan here dammit. Execute it!

CJ quit looking at those guys running towards the end zone. Pay attention! You need to learn this!

Are those guys lining up at receiver and taking touches from willie? That was the discussion.

There are a lot of things that are frustrating me about Kirk and this program, but one of the biggest is this:

Other teams FIND WAYS to get speed players and players with game breaking potential into games as early as possible in their careers. At Iowa, they ride the pine. Excuses like "they don't know the playbook yet" or other BS. It is just maddening that guys like Smith and Powell are seldom thrown the ball, and Willies rarely sees the field.

And Parker? Kid fumbled, then got relegated to no man's land. Only just now being given *limited* playing time.

I honestly give up on trying to figure out what is going thru Kirk's mind on this.

Possible the young man knows who is going to be passing the ball to him can't match up with his speed? This could be telling about the Jake/CJB question?
