Record year for ejections??????

We will see this weekend if this last week was a warning or a new normal. I am inclined to think that the number of calls will be reduced each week u til we hit last year's level.

I hope you're right. I also wish intent was a bigger factor within the rule book.

Was that from the coach or league? Cuz when he was ejected he already had to sit out the first half of the next game.

The team determined the suspension. Miles said that the late hit was not intentional (player did not know play was dead), but given the violent nature of the hit and the fact that he really SHOULD have known the play was dead, the suspension was warranted. The SEC said that in light of LSU suspending Boutte one game, they will not levy any further discipline.

I am sure many will disagree, but I think they got this one just about right.

I'm not outraged one way or the other regarding Boutte. Though his one game suspension feels more like half-a-game considering he already was sanctioned for half a game prior to the suspension.

But if you have two guys the same height with their heads up and they collide . . . their helmets are likely to collide. I hope we don't get to the point where all helmet contact is flagged.
Its starting to look that way. Did you by chance watch the TN game, where Jalen Reeves Maybin was ejected on that special teams hit?

Yeah I saw that. I was watchin another game (Indiana or Nebraska I forget which one) and a guy on offense was about to go into the end zone and he was stood up by the defender. At first the refs called a penalty but then reversed themselves. The commentators said, "If you stand someone up and your face to face, how are you supposed to avoid incidental helmet contact?"

In the future I fear that will also become illegal.

Probably. What worries me a little is what happened with the Outlaw. The other player changed his trajectory at the last second with a stumble. How is the Outlaw supposed to compensate for that?

The really sad part is the player in question probably wasn't even going to be a factor on the play.:( It was a bummer to see King not get credit for the awesome return.

I think if JJ would've kept his head up he couldve still blown him up using his hands or got out of the way. He lowered his head and didn't see what he was hitting. He's lucky he didn't hurt himself as well.

Oh I think the other side has a legit argument as you pointed out. Wanting to limit injuries is noble. It's a delicate balance with football though because of the nature of the sport. Lots of changes: halo rule; 25yard line; targeting. Old school vs New School. It's a debate worth having and your point is well taken.

This was Jewel's mistake. He went in for a decleater with his shoulder instead of the solid block with his hands. All he has to do is go in and block him with his hands at that point. Just get a hand on him and it would have been enough to prevent the guy from getting to King. I will always applaud Jewel's aggressive nature, he just needs to be smart and aggressive.

And there is a real re-learning aspect to this. FB players have always lived for the de-cleater, they just have to change their mindset. It can be done, and it is probably for the best.

The change from take my the kill shot will be the only way that football survives in 10 years.

I was making a play on your thread title. When I first read, I thought ejections was another word. :D

Yes, the ejections are really going to be an issue this year. Wonder if they will try to adjust the call for next year, really studying the intent. Some huge game is going to be cost this year secondary to a player being ejected without intent.

I think by the time Jewel arrived King had outran the defender.

I like F1 competition. People used to watch the races for the crashes. Now it's a safer sport. Football is getting safer. But the feminine sensibilities invading it will diminish it a little in my eyes. I just have to adapt to living in a matriarchal future.
