I don't think there will be division over the firing. There will almost certainly be division in the hiring. When a fan base is as volitile as Iowa's they need a home run hire to unite the fanbase behind the new coach. If the new coach is not a knock out hire, there will be more anger, more empty seats, and more losses.

I suppose thats possible. Though I think there is enough ABL (anyone but lick) sentiment out there unless the hiring process is an absolute disaster most folks will get behind the program.

Iowa's fan base isn't anymore volitle than any other major conference program. Yes, there will be some fans disappointed if it isn't a "home run hire" but no matter what attendence will be up and there will be hope for next year and the coming seasons that probably wouldn't have been here if Lick had remained. And after the first season, it comes down to just wins and losses. If whoever the new coach is, wins, the fans will be behind him. Just remember how upset a lot of the fans were when Ferentz was hired over Stoops, but Ferentz proved himself and got the fan base behind him.

Since coaches like to bring along their staff here's a couple of things to consider about Pearl

It has only been mentioned a couple of times but assistant coach Steve Forbes is a native of Lone Tree.

His lead recruiter is former Hawkeye walk-on Jason Shay.

If that's the case, then Forbes and Shay seem like more likely than Pearl.
