Really good win for Iowa

No road team has won a game in the instate round-robin. Drake and UNI will decide the state title again. But the home team winning each time shows that these are close teams, basically.

Good win for the Hawks. Team effort but Matt was the star tonite on both ends. Great stamina out there also. Liked what everyone contributed tonite. Still cannot shoot from the arc, tho. We need to do that to upset Big Ten opponents.

no road team has won?? pretti sure UNI beat ISU in Hilton

Agree it was a badly needed win. The second half was basically dead even. Iowa shot better than in any of the games I have been able to watch. I did know what to expect coming off finals week and 10 days off. Cartwright had a good second half. Basabe was up and down, but at least was in the game. The freshman that played contributed, but they had some defensive lapses.

Iowa had an inside game last night. They didn't have a whole lot of outside game. May's outside shooting is not good. Iowa will need to develop that area to have more chances to win the Big Ten.

I thought it was a great win too! And I just want to say, I see no reason why White and Ogelsby shouldn't be starting. They at least need to be getting more minutes than May and McCabe. Although Zach had did have a good game last night. Ogelsby is the only guy on the team that when he shoots I think there's a legitimate chance it goes in. And White just has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.

Oglesby is much better than I anticipated. I see a lot of Jeff Horner with him.

Storm did you see the game in person?

if so, would you agree that when Cartwright is healthy and playing well we are different team, he is definately our floor leader and Gessel will run the team next yr.

Baasbe has a lot of potential but tends to be inconsistent with his motor. Brommer is limited but seems to play really hard when he is in there.

Oglesby has a ton of potential, also can do much more than just shoot, I see Josh actually being a factor in conference play this yr. Next yr he will get Gaten's minutes.

Gatens really stepped up last night and gave the Hawkeyes great leadership.

If Woodbury can give them a legit low post threat Josh and others will get a lot of open looks over the next few yrs.

Anybody that complains about this win is nuts, this team needs to take any wins they can find, the conference season could be brutal.

Right now Zach is our best inside player, he may be undersized but he has a great motor, if Baasbe played as hard as Zach he could be a star, Zach played awesome last night,

Kind of reminds me of Settles, but he isn't as good, but the same type of player, will be a very nice option off the bench next season if he can't crack the starting lineup.

It was as big of officiating travesty as that UNI game you guys cried so hard about. The refs clearly decided in the 2nd half that Drake would not be allowed to get back in that game. They blew the whistle if anyone had the audacity to try and guard Cartwright. 3 of Drake's top 4 scorers ended up with 4 or more fouls.

I would have loved to see the results 5 on 5, but I ended up watching 8-5, and it still took Iowa a while to put them away.

I thought overall a step in the right direction. Drake is decent and we played better defense.

I am not sure what Marble did to get into the doghouse. I thought he played pretty well.

Next year we need all three sophmores to step up there game. I think White and Ogelsby will be very good with more experience and hopefully Olesani can get some minutes because Woody will need help in the post.

Drake couldn't beat Ames high on the road. Happy for the win...but it all it means is we probably will get to at least 10 by years end. Yay!

I wondered if anyone else that doesn't watch the game in black and gold glasses would have noticed this. I'd be ****** if I were a Drake fan today...

Whooooaa there cowboy. Your not thinking this through. If the hawks win, it was a a beautifully called game by the refs. However, in case of a loss, then you can play the officiating travesty card. C'mon man.

The fouls were 23 to 17. I think you and Ghost are on crack. We got a few calls but nothing out of the ordinary.

Let me check....did Iowa shoot 31 foul shots by the time Drake had 4? That was the travesty of the UNI game.

Iowa got screwed on Basabe's goal tend, then the non-goal tend at the other end,and on several traveling calls....probably favored Drake overall, but I do not like to complain about the refs...they are human.

Good win by Iowa last night. Absolutely a step in the right direction for a struggling team. There are some nice pieces to this team and a few glaring holes, but hey we all knew that going into the year right?

It was great to see Cartwright push himself last night.

To those comparing the officiating to that of the UNI game, you have to be kidding. Iowa got a few calls, but that game was your average every day, garden variety, nothing to see here, home court advantage at very worse.

The UNI game was.....well......exceptional.

Geez, the negativity is overwhelming. That was our best game of the year. The team is going in the right direction--
UNI: played well.
ISU: overwhelmed, but saw glimpses
Drake: played better defensively and show a ton of patience offensively.

There are a lot more positives:

Cartwright got a little mojo going. Very much needed.
Marble will slide over to the 2 soon. May will offer some punch off of the bench. This is a scenario of "when" not "if."
Gatens played inspired. It was great to see his game go in some other places like rebounding last nigh.
Basabe is getting too much negativity right now. He was solid last night and has been solid for 4 straight games. Let go of the bad start. He's playing no different than last year now.
Zach is a charge machine, stretches the D a bit on O, and makes plays despite limitations.
White had his best game (yes, better than Chi. State)
Josh is fun to watch
May got two early fouls so I only had to watch him about 1 minute the first half
Brommer dives for balls he has no chance of getting
Archie is'nt playing (which might be number 1 on the list)

Personally, I see the exact same improvement arc from last year's team. There will be some painful B1G games, but there will be excitement. I see some upsets in the future (along with a few 20 point blowouts).

a 29 -23 ft attempts advantage is not lopsided, and as was pointed out Iowa made 23 vs 17 for Drake
to even compare it to the UNI flop game is moronic but then again all i have to do is see who the two were that posted that comment to understand
