Really Good DJK Article

It is a really good read. What a shame....

I found it a little odd that KF didn't want the positive feature to be written on DJK and instead pushed for Clayborn. Not that Clayborn doesn't deserve it, but I think any positive article on DJK would have been good for him and the program. Just a little weird.

I think that one there could have gone either way. Both Clayborn and DJK make good human interest stories when talking about their past. DJK's whole projects to middle class journey and Clayborn's battle with childhood illness.

Very good story. Looking at those pics from the Arizona game makes me really wish we could go back to the start of that game and replay the whole season from there on. I was so confident that this would be a great team at that point.

The writer might want to consider expanding his friendships with pharmacists. The one rural Rx didn't quite get this right. What he is using is telling but the Rx way overstated the complexities of these meds.

I also thought it was interesting that KF wanted Clayborn to have the feature. That's actually a bit reassuring.

...didn't want the positive feature to be written on DJK and instead pushed for Clayborn.

I'm not sure that's the case. As the author notes, not long after he was denied access Mike Hlas was allowed to do the DJK story. Maybe Kirk was more concerned on who wrote the feature.

Sad story indeed.

If there was any question as to whether DJK was a "look at me" kind of guy...there isn't now. The writer shares some pretty clear examples. It's not hard to imagine why he butted heads with KFz so often.

Ever had to wean yourself off prescription painkillers?

Hint: Not pleasant.

Not sure if that was aimed at me. I never said these drugs aren't dangerous and addictive. I'm saying the comments made by the rural pharmacist sound like comments made by someone who doesn't work with those meds often.

Dilaudid is a heavy duty pain killer.

It was the main drug in the 1989 movie 'Drugstore Cowboy' with Matt Dillon.
Excellent movie by the way. More a addictive than heroin. Turns people into junkies.

Not Good that DJ would have this one anywhere near him. Wondering how addicted (if at all) he is and if he is going through withdrawals about now?

That was a very powerful story. I didn't realize how dangerous some of that stuff really is. I sincerely hope that Derrell can get his head on straight and come out of this a better person. He's really not a bad person now, he's just made some VERY poor choices. But he's always been regarded as a great guy, he's always been great with kids. Whatever issues/demons he's been trying to deal with, I hope it's something he can overcome.

Miller even mentioned something I'd not though of before. Not making an excuse for the drug stuff, but I thought he might have had a point about a possible connection between DJK's birth mother leaving him and his VERY outgoing personality. He's been a guy that desperately wanted to be liked, and it's hard to imagine that his mother leaving him didn't have some kind of impact on that psychologically.
