Most of their posters are guessing that he will go to Iowa....I'm not sure what board you are reading. I see one guy predicting ISU.

gohawks - don't know what thread you are reading because i don't see hardly anyone saying he will go to iowa either - most of them squabbling on whether his cousin or uncle played for isu, and how this is a 'must get' for isu. i'm not sure i see any predicting an iowa pickup.
There are some, not necessarily today, that think Fred can just snap his fingers and iowa kids will come to ISU. That annoys the hell out of me.

Cydkar, you are very level headed. Why do some Clone fans think that? Is it because Fran is a middle aged white dude? I don't get it. The battles between the two staffs will be back and forth IMO.

I don't know why people think Fred Hoiberg has such an advantage in-state. Most of these kids don't even remember when Fred played. 70% of them are probably Iowa fans anyway and want to help the Hawks do well. I have a hard time believing that Fred's NBA career holds much water with Iowa kids. I do think it helps a bit with the city kids though.

Personally, I think the Royce White signing takes ISU out of the running. Suddenly, with White, Godfrey, Railey, and McKnight all signing I don't know how many forwards ISU will take in the next class. ISU has a lot of young big men and only one underclassman guard. Hoiberg really needs to look at guards at this point.
You would be very wrong in thinking kids don't even remember when Fred played. Fred has been holding summer youth basketball camps on the ISU campus almost every year since he graduated from college including the summer after he had his open heart surgery.
I personally was at the camp as a spectator in 2002 and players just completing 3rd grade that year will be high school seniors this year. I believe he wasn't able to do that since he has been in the front office with the Timberwolves but he is having a camp this year that I believe starts as young as kindergarten which may always have.
Here is the link just as it appeared in 2002 but was updated each year to read that he wasn't going to hold a camp in 2007.

It has nothing to do with Fran, and everything to do with the perception of Fred. And as others have said, I don't agree with it.
Best of luck to Uthoff and I think he'll be a good player. I think any Alex Thompson comparisons are a disservice to him.
I think it's because everybody was so down on Mac that they have gotten a boner over Fred. We are way better off, IMHO, but Fred still has to battle for every recruit. We were dead with Mac.
Back to Uthoff, I think Iowa gives him a better opportunity to play early than ISU does. ISU's younger talent is at his position(s). I wish he was going to ISU but if I were him I'd look strongly at Iowa from a PT standpoint if all other things were equal.
