Re-do one play in Iowa FB history

I'll be honest, my first thought was having Ronnie Harmon get hurt in the Minnesota game, just hurt enough to keep him out of the Rose Bowl. I know it's bad of me to think that, but...

My first thought was in the same season...1985 game at OSU. Not a specific play, because I had to listen to it on the radio and I don't recall the play by play at all. OSU had no business winning that game and knocked Iowa out of their #1 ranking. That was the beginning of my undying hatred of the Buckeyes.

Iowa wins that game and they most likely go into Pasadena undefeated and still ranked #1. Chuck Long could have possibly sneaked by Bo for the Heisman. It was at the time the closest Heisman vote in history. Maybe having Iowa undefeated would have won Chuck a few more votes? Ronnie Harmon is still the question mark in the Rose Bowl, but who knows?

My list of re-do's:
1. Shovel pass call to AY against Michigan in 2005. We win that game and we win the conference for the 2nd straight year.
2. Naked bootleg call against NW in our own endzone in 2009 that got Stanzi killed. Would have beaten NW, which even if we lose next week at OSU still allows us to tie for the conference title.
3. EIther of the 2 Stross TD drops in 2009 at OSU. Get just one of those and we win the conference outright.
4. Pick 6 pass against Arizona in 2010
5. Fake punt against Wisky in 2010
6. Terrell Pryor 4th down run in 2010
7. Could pick about 10 different plays in the 2015 BTCG (targeting call that wasn't, last goalline play, etc)

There are so many plays in the BTT game vs michigan state that would have changed the outcome...

-Connor Cook's 4th down run
-The Pass interference on MVB when he had his man burnt for a TD and the MSU guy basically tackled him to prevent him from catching the ball
-Tevaun not seeing the deep ball for his second TD
-The stupid F'NG non-targetting call in the first half where the ball landed on a MSU player and miraculously turned into an interception

I think reversing ANY of those plays leads to an Iowa win. So take your pick

I can't believe it took over two pages of posts before someone brought up the 1985 OSU game. I don't remember it because I was far too young, but IMO winning this game would've had the most impact for the Iowa program.

Next for me would be ISU 2002. Then the fake punt in the 2010 Wisconsin game.

#1 above was the first loss at home in like 20 games and the hawks were really outplaying Mich until I think KF went conservative. As soon as we got behind late the coaches opened it up to get down by the goal only to take the ball out of Tate's hands and the shovel pass.

If you could re-do one play in a Hawkeye game, where and when would you use your mulligan?

Imagine Stanzi's naked bootleg against NW but getting a second chance to change that play?!

Yours?

My god where do I start? So many to choose from.
I am going to go with the third down and goal from the Iowa one yard line in the Big Ten title game. If we got to do that again I think Iowa stops Sparty even with 4th down looming.

Had to look that one up to remember. But we were still two games back to two teams even if we beat michigan.

First, I LOVE the topic! My answer might be a bit unorthodox, but in 2002, I would have Illinois make their game-winning field goal at the end of regulation against Ohio State. Instead of being ranked 3rd behind Miami and OSU, Iowa and Miami would have been ranked 1 and 2 and would have played for the BCS National Championship. There was a play the week before vs. Purdue and the week after vs. Michigan that would have helped as well. Any one of them would be my pick.
Out of the box-thinking CHAMPION!

It makes more sense to redo the 4th down than it does to redo the 3rd down.

2011 Iowa vs Minnesota. 4th quarter Coker fumbles after ripping off a huge gainer for the Hawks, giving MN the win.
If he hangs on to the ball, reasonable chance Iowa kicks a FG to win that game. Instead, we are embarrassed twice in a row against the pathetic Goofers.

Damn, everyone of these are awesome and well thought of, making all of our blood to boil. However, can anyone of us remember what our wives told us ( or thought they told us) yesterday? Yep, that's what I thought, ha ha

2005 NW. Returned most of starters from team that finished in top 8 prvs 3 yrs. We were 5-3 after getting jobbed by refs and losing to Mich the prvs week in OT. We were dominating NW in Evanston. Up 27-14 with less than 4:00 left, and the usually reliable Schlichter comes out to kick a short FG but pushes it. I was sitting in a bar in Chi and said we just lost this 28-27. Sure enough our prevent defense gave up quick TD, onside kick then another quick TD and we lose 28-27. That missed FG seemed to turn the program into a string of bad luck for about 3-yrs.

Did you mean to put Wisconsin or Mich St?

Wisconsin. I was in the stadium watching it unfold. My brain has blocked out most of the specifics but I can remember watching the punt team run onto the field. I screamed "Fake punt! Nobody is dumb enough to punt and give us the game." I got a glare from an older gentlemen sitting a few rows ahead of me... and then the rest was slow motion....(That older gentlemen never looked back again)

Soon after Melvin Gordon decommitted, and went to Wisconsin. Idk if he sticks to us if we stopped the fake punt but it still pains me to think what he would have done here......
