Rating 2013's CBB hires (and more Alford)

I see the Alf hiring as a D at best. I still say Alf will be lucky to last three seasons at UCLA. This hiring will end up costing the UCLA AD his job.

Of course I have no idea what UCLA was thinking, but it seems like kind of a panic hire to me. OMG, we can't get Shaka or the flavor of the month coach. Better grab somebody quick.

I would grade it as C-

If Alf is fired on the timeline I expect, there is no way the AD will keep his job (extension or not).

I don't understand the line about Alford's ego being big enough to feel comfortable in a huge job. In my opinion, that is part of the reason it is a bad fit. His ego made a place like New Mexico the perfect school for him. He needs to be at a school where basketball is king, yet he won't be questioned. He has too thin of skin to operate effectively at a big-time job.

That's why he will turn up in a place like Utah State or Alabama-Birmingham within 5 years.

I just thought that alford could be the first guy to leave (because he sees the writing on the wall that he will be fired...kind of like at iowa) ucla for a small school and at the press conference say that he is going to a better job. That is the type of arrogance that he has.

I'll betcha he drops his ego, seeks spiritualism, gives his money away and returns to Indiana as an assistant coach.
