How many thousands of seats have to be empty for you to be concerned about fan apathy?
The TV money is so huge now, I honestly think schools and leagues don't really care all that much other than making sure they sell their luxury seating. Other than the White Sox and NASCAR, I haven't seen too many sports teams or leagues make big efforts to lure fans, particularly the next generation of fans, into the gates - in fact most are doing the opposite by pricing out families.
Yeah, they won't say it in public, but you can see it in their actions.Cool. Then they should say that. "Yeah, we get a billion dollars from TV, so we really don't care about fan apathy. Besides, most of you rubes will pay whatever we charge anyway."
They took a sack on 1st down when they were at their own 38 so they faced 2nd and 18. At this point there was about a minute to go in the 2nd Qtr. There are good coaches that would still try to move the ball at that point. There are also some good coaches that would probably say lets just get it to halftime. Neither is really wrong and the decision is really up to personal preference/how you feel the game is going at that point.
With the wind? Absolutely. We still had time outs left. I think 98% of coaches would try to get a pass completion on that 2nd down. And then make the decision.
Again, we had the wind at our backs. We have a good FG kicker. We only needed 25 yards to attempt a FG. Why in the world would you not go for the 25 yards in 2 plays with the wind at your back and TOs to spend.
I disagree that "good" coaches would waste that opportunity.
WE HAVE A WINNER!Questions:
1. In the OSU game, you guys broke tendency on first down and passed around 75% of the time on first down with astounding success. What did Wisky and PU show you in film to make you revert back to 75% runs on first down?
2. How much of "lack of execution" is on players and their skill level/attitude and how much is on coaches and their preparation/game planning?
3. Why is Josh Jackson, a Thorpe finalist, and one of the most dynamic CBs in college football, relegated to only one side of the field so that the opposition can attack the other side of the field with their top WR? It wasn't until PU scored 2 TDs in 3 mins that you made the change to swap Jackson...why?
4. With one game left, you are ranked at or near the bottom in virtually every meaningful offensive statistic....Can any of that be attributed to Brian's abilities as an OC in the B1G?
5. Nearly 75% of your audibles are to the short side of the field. When you have a player of Akrum's ability to make people miss in space, why would you limit his space by constantly running him to the short side instead of going to the "field" side to give him room to maneuver?
6. Out of 105 scholarship players, how can there not be one player that can effectively field a punt? How much of that is attributed to your special teams coaching vs the skill level of the players on scholarship?
7. Can you explain how a program that is a self-described developmental program, be worse in November than they were in September? How much of that is a lack of coaching and game planning versus the players' inability or unwillingness to improve?
Purdue moved the ball 100 yards with the wind under three minutes in the third for two TDs . Checkmate.
"Coach, why did you choose to not overrule BF's highly questionable call for a QB-draw on 3rd and 9, considering Stanley's modest running abilities..
or were you not even listening when that was called?"
Iowa sucks obviously. Should be playing in the MAC. No business playing these juggernauts in the B1G.Completely irrelevant. That WR who beat us like a drum on the left side of the offense would be the best WR on Iowa by a country mile. Also, I don't think either of Purdue's CB's are as bad as what we had out there trying to cover that #21 fella. Plus, our pass rush looks like four cripples running in quicksand, while Purdue had a steady pass rush right over the middle on almost every down. What they did on 3 plays has no bearing on what our offense could or would have done.

Say goodnight Mary.A: When we break tendencies and it works, you praise us. When we break tendencies and it doesn't work, we have jagoffs like you playing Monday Morning Quarterback. Eat a giant bag of peni5es, this presser is over.
Whoa whoa whoa. Too much credit. No, look, I'm convinced that if Kurt was coaching in the MAC and had relatively equal talent, he would have an overall losing record right now.

I disagree that 98% of coaches would pass the ball in that situation on 2nd and 18 at their own 30 with less than a minute to play. I'm going to take a quote from Jimmy Johnson.
"You see, an offensive coordinator has got one thought on his mind. Score. Score as fast as I can and as much as I can. Well you don't want to do that. Maybe towards the end of the half you want him to slow it down a little bit. Run the ball a little bit. Even if you have to sacrifice maybe getting a TD and you have to take a FG, do not let the opponent get the ball back right before the end of the half. You gotta manage the game. Manage the tempo."
In case you're wondering, he's won National Championships and Super Bowls as a coach. He's a hall of famer. Then again, if you're great, you're a 2 percenter and I'll take one of those.
