Gesell only scored 13 points and his team lost. A four year starter should be dominating the PTL, it's concerning that he's not able to do this.

Gesell is as good as he's going to get. He's not going to lead a team anywhere. It is what it is.

He's been good enough to help lead Iowa to back to back tourney appearances after a 7 year drought and our first NCAA win in close to 15 years.

It is what it is and it is pretty fricking great.

I agree with most of this, especially the part about expectations earlier in his career. However, I think his elbow injury limited him quite a bit last season but helped him develop a feel for pace and when to penetrate. I'm not saying he will be all B1G, but I think he will put it together this year. He won't average 15 pts, but when he's not scoring he will be finding other guys.

My concern with Gesell is injuries. He was hurt late in his freshman year. He was hurt between his freshman and sophomore years...limited him all year as a sophomore. He hurt his elbow last year. If he can stay healthy I think he will have a big year. If he gets hurt again... Well he will play through the injury if at all possible...can't question his toughness. But he won't be nearly as effective IMO.

Agreed. I'm not knocking his game. I don't think we should expect more than what we have seen. Did you come away with the impression that I didn't like him?

I feel like this class and last year's is good enough to keep us as a bubble team at a bare minimum for the next few years. I have a feeling they will be better than that but like I said, that's bare minimum. We already have a pretty good team, now all we need is for a couple of them to over achieve like White and Marble, or bring in one difference maker.
