Pryce staying home!

Matt Gattens was on that team. Word was from his dad, a big Hawkeye booster, said he would pull Matt off the team if Lick wasn’t fired. Most of us thought the threat worked.
It's ridiculous if that is true that it took a threat like that to get him out of Iowa City. Just the results were justification for getting rid of him.

This situation is different in that Ben hasn't done anything wrong to deserved this level of defections. Where is $chool pride and $chool loyalty with these player$

If they are all that shallow then they can go to hell for all I care.

This is way more than we lost during the Lick firing. That recruiting class was decent but nothing like the class we’re losing out on. Plus we didn’t lose the entire team. Only ones left are Traore and Kingsbury. Teams don’t lose that many players to the death penalty. Other schools must feel the same as all of them so far have been picked up by major conference schools.
Very sad.

I get it.

I guess we underestimated the loyalty to Fran. All 3 new commits have now entered the portal. Two 4****, one upper 3***, and of course, most of the former Iowa Hawkeyes. We better be awfully patient with our new coach. I wonder if he is having second thoughts?
Been watching Iowa BB since Ralph Miller and have never seen such a hot mess. Well, maybe Lick.
Dick Schultz comes to mind.

I wish more people here understood how much influence the bigger boosters have. My boss gives six figures (mostly to football and wrestling) twice a year through our company and strictly by dumb luck of having the job I do, those payments go across my desk. His farm corporation gives money separately to the athletic department as a whole.

I’ve heard (in person) some REALLY eye opening conversations between some of these boosters, and when I mention donor influence here people say it’s all a bunch of hooey. Beth is a good AD, and yes she’s the “boss” on paper, but the major donors approve everything she does first at a head coaching level in football, basketball, and wrestling. And they influence a hell of a lot of other decisions like the one you just mentioned. These people giving that kind of money have huge egos and got to where they are in life by being aggressive and using their influence for better or for worse. They don’t like being told no and they will pull money if they feel it’s not being used for what they want it to be used for. I’m to the point where I know people here aren’t going to believe it and that’s fine. Couldn’t care less.

For the record, I believe you. In a sense, this revelation is neither good nor bad, and likely comes down more to the good side. After all, Iowa Athletics needs the money. The rules and the law provide a fair amount of balance. It seems Iowa coaches have managed to keep our programs clean. I would guess the AD, the coaches, and the President, along with the Board of Directors, provide valuable and clear advice on the use of donor money. Win, win.

It’s likely all about money

There are over 1000 in the portal, I'm sure we can fill a roster.

I saw where George Mason made the Dance, lost in the first round then all of their starters entered the portal. It's just weird, IMO.

Since I started this thread I'' chime in and say Pryce has not said he is coming back.

I smelled enough of a rat that I put a desclaimer in there but those with more inside knowledge than me quickly debunked it.

But there is still hope..............I truly believe some of Payton's love for the Hawks had to rub off on lil bro.

That might depend on who Peyton's love was directed toward-the Hawks or Fran.

Tough call

Everything he said publicly screams Hawks.

Payton tried similar tactics that Connor did in terms of trying to get more fan engagement, and he got similar results. He could very well be F it, coach always had my back, so I’m going to have his. So that definitely points toward Fran.

As I stated before, tough call without having insider knowledge.

Oh I didn't. I thought most of us saw that coming. And frankly this program needed being gutted and rebuilt. But I figured most everyone would do what they did. Let Ben cherry pick the guys he'd like to try and bring back and rerecruit the Kochs, Sandforts and Dixs. It sounds like Dix is having fun taking vistits so I'm not getting hopes up on him returning. I wasn't even if Fran had been back in his case.

This is yr 1 of a total rebuild so yeah we shouldn't expect him to do what he just did at Drake. That'd be nuts. I'm here for it if it does but my gosh that's unrealistic. The guy is 43 and should hopefully be here a long long time. He's gonna get till yr 3 before some results need to be demanded before pitchforks come out I would hope. If he does exceed expectations he could have us in the dance in 2 yrs though. The portal just makes flipping rosters so much quicker

Interesting. If he's a booster I'd guess it's usually the $ that would influence change more so then a player. It kinda worked with CJB and football. It worked so well with his threat to leave that KF put out that January depth chart with him at the top of it that we'd never seen before or since.
