Proof there is nothing to do in Nebraska

Cool. Enjoy it. At least you know your place.

You keep being Iowa.

We're sick of being Iowa.

We want to be Nebraska again.[/QUOTE]

^ this....this is the delusion and arrogance.

Nebby has no reason to not be better than they've been, the have history, resources, brand, rabid fan support, huge boosters, etc.

They'll likely be better, yes. But when you say "Nebraska again", I hope your referring to Pelini level success...cause the 90's level isn't coming back, and that's the point.

I want to hear a nebby fan admit that scholly and roster limits and moving from a weakish B12 North are huge reasons that return to blue blood status is extremely unlikely...by that I mean no chance. I think Tommy O knew it....

Nebby has recruited well, even with terrible seasons. Can frost develop players, and build O and D lines and defense?...cause that's what they haven't had since the 90's.

Nice swing and a miss. A whole lotta mad jelly in this thread.

Not only is the athletics program self funded and self sustaining, they gave back $5-10 million to academics:

http://www.omaha.com/news/education...cle_0fe1bc83-0fcf-5398-a5e6-75c60ad5074f.html

"With NU this year receiving its full Big Ten revenue share of $51 million, Chancellor Ronnie Green saw an opportunity to increase the $5 million in support that athletics has been directly providing to the academic side of the school. That’s why the school plans to double it to $10 million with the creation of Husker Scholars, a new scholarship program for non-athletes.

Nebraska’s $5 million athletic transfer to academics was already the highest in the Big Ten, more than double the next closest. Most schools subsidize their athletic programs with other university dollars."
Good thing they got that Big 10 money rolling in then, I guess. You know, that conference that most Husker fans ridiculed forever and did not want to join.

Wanting to win isn't, everyone wants to win. Nebraska rubes bashing Iowa constantly about how your team is so much more dominant and how Iowa's beneath you is delusional. Unless you want to squawk about seasons that happened two decades ago.

I don't think you do.

Good lord man you guys just can't see through the fog, can you? It's not the Riley era. It's the Solich/Callahan/Pelini/Riley era.

Jesus Osborne retires, then you guys get a good coach in Solich and fire him after he wins a conference championship, 3 division titles, never had a losing record, and the firing came after a 10-3 season. What the F more do you want?

Then, as par for the Nebraska course, you hire a flaming turd to replace a good coach and Callahan (aka Mike Riley Sr.) runs your program into the ground and misses your first bowl games since the Nixon years. Better fire that slob and keep your streak of multiple head coaches on payroll going. What else you gonna do at that point, right?

Next let's bring in Bo Pelini and fire that guy after he wins more division titles than he lost, and never won less than 9 games. He was a dick no doubt, but you want to know why he bitched about your shit stain fans? Because they're shit stain fans. Fans who, in their infinite boredom and lack of other recreational activities, throw temper tantrums and heckle anyone who isn't Jesus Osborne and doesn't go undefeated every year. Guess what? Welcome to the Big Ten, where you have more than one full speed game against Oklahoma every year. Time for another coach to get checks for sitting on the couch (your HR and accounting departments must really love football).

Next up in a long line of genius decisions by the storied and famed Nebraska Athletic Department is to bring in the granddaddy of 'em all. Ol' Mike Riley. A guy who in his 5 years prior to Nebraska never finished higher than 5th in the PAC12 (one year), and never higher than 8th in the others. I won't bore you with the details of how that turned out. Must have been because Riley hired Crazy Bob Diaco who came from Iowa, right? Nah.

So...time to go for the record and put 3 head coaches on the payroll, and hire Dr. Tommy's redheaded stepchild, Jesus Ginger Jr. 'Cause that'll solve eeeeeeverything, right? We'll even make a comic book about him and get Billy Moos to tell those sons a bitches Harbaugh and Meyer where the bear shits (and then backtrack like a sissy when he gets called out on it).

Did Nebraska win more games than Iowa during that time? Sure. No one disputes that. But, as per the topic of the thread to this point, your team has been a bumbling, irrelevant chain of embarrassing decisions driven by the ridiculous fanbase for years. Fans who can't seem to get it in their heads that their team dwells in the bottom 4th of their conference, hasn't challenged a serious contender (let alone been one) in 15 years, and that Iowa, as shitty as we are, is better than Nebraska now. Not just a "flukey" better, either. We have more top tens, Conference CO-championships, 4 out of the last 5 against your squad, and in that time period outscored Nebraska 196-98, stolen your best in state recruits, had more players drafted, more first rounders, more pro bowlers, and more pro bowls total. Are we a blue blood? No way. And we can accept that.

Back in the corded phone days when Nebraska led us in all those categories you wouldn't think of being compared to a school like Iowa. So what's different now that the tables are turned? Nothing other than your fans' detachment from reality.

It isn't any less relevant than games that happened in 1995.

Lol. The Nebraska fan equivalent to "I know you are, but what am I"
Glorious

@74Hunter will “cherry pick” the news he wants, just like we apparently cherry pick Bill Moos’ idotic quotes.

Spot on.

HawkGold you have only one agenda on HN and it's to blow up every thread. This thread IS NOT about Barta so it's very simple.........STAY ON TOPIC!

You seem to be doing a pretty good job of it. I made one comment as a joke and you did what you did. Nice try.

A friend of mine, a former Soviet Army Colonel once said something rather profound.

Which is worse, someone who tells a lie or someone who makes someone tell a lie.

Which is worse in this case. Someone who simply made a Barta joke (common around here) or someone who is taking the thread off course by accusing someone of it?

Gold, don't take this the wrong way, but you almost sound like you could have auditioned for the Dos Equis commercials.

You definitely sound like you have met some of the "most interesting men in the world."

A Soviet Army Colonel? That's far out!

Hmmmm

I know exactly what you were referring to.

And what I posted showed that not only do the systems budget cuts have NOTHING to due with coaching salaries (which you said in the original post I responded to), that without the athletic department donating $5-10 million per year to academics, the cuts may be even more severe.

@74Hunter will “cherry pick” the news he wants, just like we apparently cherry pick Bill Moos’ idotic quotes.

Do you even pay attention to or understand the you the drivel you spew?

And just like the last time you got owned......don't even bother with a response.....

Then people (not saying you) should not talk out of both sides of their face.

Don't rag on the program for sucking, then rag on it for trying not to suck anymore. That's just idiotic.

Nebby has no reason to not be better than they've been, the have history, resources, brand, rabid fan support, huge boosters, etc.

Agreed. Having a meddling chancellor who actively tried to keep the football program from overshadowing academics hurt badly. Thankfully he's gone.

They'll likely be better, yes. But when you say "Nebraska again", I hope your referring to Pelini level success...cause the 90's level isn't coming back, and that's the point.

I mean playing tough, disciplined, sound football. A team that other teams don't like to play. A team that other teams will feel they played for weeks after the game is over.

If that happens the rest will fall in place.

I want to hear a nebby fan admit that scholly and roster limits and moving from a weakish B12 North are huge reasons that return to blue blood status is extremely unlikely...by that I mean no chance. I think Tommy O knew it...
.

It will be tougher but not impossible. I've gone on record to say that I don't think Nebraska will win another National Championship in my lifetime.

If Wisconsin can do what they've done, with Barry Badger essentially copying Osborne's model to build UW, there is no reason to think that Nebraska can't supplant Wisconsin at the top of the B1G West.

Nebby has recruited well, even with terrible seasons. Can frost develop players, and build O and D lines and defense?...cause that's what they haven't had since the 90's.

I agree. If Frost does at Nebraska what he did at UCF, there is no reason not to believe that the S&C and development will be there. The offense will score plenty.

It won't likely be until 2019 that we really see what this staff will do.

I have serious reservations about OL and defense, especially in the short term.

Actually 2 of them. Very interesting guys.interesting take on history.i chuckled at your sort of joke.

I could go on and on. This is honestly just a snippet I became friends w Jerry Parr. He showed me the paper napkin that had Reagans mouth blood on it.. Had an intersesting interaction with Imelda Marcos in Manilla. Had lunch once with Wayne Larave. Nice guy. Coached a kid whose dad Id talked to on the phone about coaching and behavior and so on. He'd yell at his kids when they got loud. Said he had to work and couldnt make the games. Then one day he showed up on a Big Ten bye week. I had no idea who he was. He was Big head Rose Bowl coach.

I can't honestly explain it. It just happens.
