Preview, Prediction: A Lot on the Line for Hawkeyes, Badgers

How is that not bringing up kirk in the locker room, where else is he going to give a pregame speech, the library?

Sorry for the attacks, I just don't like people making claims when their posts shows that they literally have no idea - even if your post was made tongue in cheek (or tongue out in your case)

Yes he sure as hell can be smug
I made a mistake when I thought you were responding to my second post, which said nothing about Kirk's locker room presence,

I did refer to it the first post, so that's on me.

Overall, I thought my posts were pretty complementary towards Kirk. He has many admirable qualities and some faults. All of us do.

Mostly, I've already got my game face on for Saturday. I live in Wisconsin, my wife is from Wisconsin, many of my friends are from Wisconsin, and I am sick of losing to them. They're not obnoxious like Nebraska fans, but it's time to shut them up. They've been at or near the top for too long, football and basketball. It's not sustainable. Now is as good a time as any for a little correction to the mean.

Yep Badger fans are pretty bad, I have a coworker who is one, but he never rubs it in. He can't believe Danny Davis was only suspended for two games after taking pictures of the rape victim. Says Wisconsin will fold after blowing their playoff chances last week and will lose by two touchdowns. My uncle on the other hand, hard to put up with!

Oh if I'm Wisky or anybody else we'd play that'd be what I'd try. I'd have 9 men boxes every single snap and I'd be rushing no less than 6 or 7 every snap. The game plan against us should be make us beat you over the top more than once. Maybe even 3 times before you adjust because of how stubborn our staff has proven to be. But for some reason teams don't. Not to that drastic of an extent anyway and it still surprises me they don't.
That said I think against any kind of quick pressure I think I'd rather have Stanley in there than Mansell yet. Even if Mansell can make the first guy or two miss what's he do after that? Not totally confident in his overall play making ability yet. Stanley needs to not hold on to the ball too long. If he can get rid of it quick and be on the money we'll be just fine

too much over simplification. over the top is not singly defined as long passes. 9 in the box, or even 8? go ahead. you don't need to go 30 yards down the field against that defensive set. Quick outs, short hooks, screens, quick off tackles, draws, boots, are only a few of the options against a team that goes with lots of guys in the box.

you just described me...But I don't know your wife...

Which far too often is our primary way of playing against a stacked box or any defense really. Teams for a long time have dared us to go deep and we rarely do. We could make things easier on ourselves by being more aggressive on 1st downs. We have the personel to do multiple things from double TE sets or single ones. I'm not saying never do the short quicker stuff. It just shouldn't be the main thing you do all the time against stacked defenses.

You understand what Deace said, but I don't think you're applying it correctly. Wisconsin doesn't have a great quarterback. Hornibrook and Stanley are pretty similar quarterbacks, and both have been... lacking thus far. Both have had a couple of standout games, and both have had some awful games. Hornibrook has thrown more picks, so point to Iowa there. Yes, if one of them plays lights out that will be the game, but neither of them have shown any sign that they will. This will be a game fought in the trenches, plain and simple, and Iowa's DL has looked much better than Wisconsin's OL. I hope that keeps up, but we'll see given that Wisconsin will be Iowa's toughest test yet. If Stanley can pass well against Wisconsin like BYU did, that's game. BYU exposed Wisconsin's inability to defend both the pass and run at the same time. Wisconsin had a lot of attrition on defense. If Wisconsin loads the box and Iowa cannot punish it (See last season) then this will be another low scoring game. Luckily for us those are the games Iowa has been competitive in in years past.

I believe that the BYU corners played the WI receivers tight man. We tend to play a pretty soft zone. In that pass defense, even UNI's quarterback looked really good late in the second half. Without frequent pressure and a soft pass defense, Hornibrook might regain his confidence look like a great quarterback.

A couple things here. First, yeah, he looked decent when the game was over. Second, no, I don’t think Hornibrook will looking much better against a zone scheme. He’s played more than one game this season. Do you not think our defense will get pressure?

Just an opinion here, but I don't think how UNI's QB looked late in the 2nd half mattered a bit. We were up 38-00 at the time, and coach Parker called off the dogs at that point. I'm no expert, but I do think that if we had continued with the same mindset, that UNI would not have crossed midfield at all, and we would have scored 50+ points, but we know how coach Ferentz feels about blowouts....

I agree with you. I am hoping that we can keep pressure on Hornibrook and that wide receivers are well covered. However, if the CBs play 7 to 10 yards off the line of scrimmage to avoid getting beat on long passes, that might allow the Badgers to get their passing offense on track.

Who's that TE for Wisconsin, Ferguson? If Hornibrook has time to throw Ferguson is the one who will hurt us. If those two can play pitch and catch all night it will spell trouble. Our pass rush has to get to Hornibrook, speed him up, etc.

Hmmm...looks like 83Hawk joined the Banned. What he do??
He messed with Atomic and lost!
