Pretenders?

Fairly even match between these 2 teams. The stats don't lie, missed opportunities at the line, 56.5% to 85.7%. They out rebounded us by 3.....The glaring stat that we don't see are the last second shots that fell....we shot 46%, they shot 46%, we shot better from behind the arc than Indiana, but they made 2 more 3's than we did....crazy game of twists and turns
The other major concern in this game was our bench. We got nothing from them, and they almost were a liability. In my opinion this reliability of the bench has been one thing that has made us great this year. Hopefully they learn and grow from this.

I don't know what way they could have lost to make it better. We once again shut down their best guard but the rest of the team played lights out. That's about the best way to lose you can ask for. And to the person who said it would be different if we gave our best effort and lost. Indiana isn't capable if beating us if we play our best.

Wagner and Ellingson rarely score and Baer played ok but happened to not score any points so I don't think you can say the moment was too big for them. The only one who was terrible was Uhl.

And we're talking about 3 freshmen and a sophomore. The current starters had similar moments as freshmen and sophomores. They also had some great moments as freshmen and sophomores.

The bench has 6 more games and the conference tournament to be better prepared for the tournament that matters. And I'm willing to bet our bench doesn't go scoreless in the rematch at Carver.

Get away from the cliff. A loss at Bloomington isn't a bad loss. Only two losses in the BIG, both on the road to contending teams. Iowa's loss isn't even as bad as all the #1 ranked teams losses. if you thought a teams was going to go thru the BIG with one loss, you're crazy.

This team really needed another close game, win or loss. I think that was a good thing that came from last night.

At the beginning of the year, we sucked because we were probably a bubble team. Now that we're in position to win our first conference title in 35 years, we suck because we won't win by a wide margin.

I agree with this as well I think. If Iowa threw their best punches and just got beat, it would be easy to live with, but they didnt play well. Indiana had something to do with that, but energy and effort for about 30 minutes wasnt very good.
Exactly. It happens. It doesn't mean they can just swipe it without evaluating why they played poorly, but it's also not a signal of bad things to come, either. There are 30 games a year in basketball, so games like this happen where more than one guy isn't clicking - those usually result in losses. No one was complaining when the Hawks worked MSU on the road, or battled back against Purdue on the road, or beat what is proving to be a good Marquette team (and the games at ISU, Maryland and Indiana weren't blow outs despite prolonged stumbles in at least part of each of those games). But repeating your best every game is difficult, that's why there hasn't been an undefeated team since 1976. Iowa is one of 10+ teams that could win the national championship this year. There is no dominant team. If the Hawks get a decent seed, and get on a roll in March, they can do it. In the meantime, I'd love to see them win a BT title. I still like their chances, their biggest test will be at Michigan.

The next 6 games set up pretty nicely I am not ready to jump off the ledge just yet.

Or we might *gasp* share it.

I'll say wait til they come to Carver Arena, we'll stomp them into pieces like Iowa farmers with his Allis Chambers.

I wonder how many of the players would understand the reference to "Allis Chambers." I could them saying, "Didn't he play for Kansas?"

Iowa beat iowa yesterday by not being ready for the first 12 minutes of the game or so and missing free throws left and right. I know the bench isn't the most talented, literally only two scoring threats that were both off yesterday but 0 points and 3 rebounds for the entire bench............come on, even ISU gets better bench production than that and they don't have a bench. Indiana did what they needed to do, Iowa did not. That's why indiana won.

Flush this one and beat the goophers by 40 at home like every team is supposed to.

Every basketball team is going to have games where they are going to play poorly. You have to give Indiana credit for their effort last night, but Indiana was hot in the first half. Indiana isn't going to go through the rest of the season undefeated. I doubt if Iowa will lose more than one or two more games before the conference tournament.

Pretenders don't play like absolute crap for 85% of the game while the home team shoots lights out and still have a chance to win.

Last night sucked but there is a lot of season left and Iowa will be fine.

They will beat Indiana by double digits in Carver.

loesshills is a good poster, he's been on here as long as I have. He posted what many of us were feeling after watching the game last night, I was muttering some of the same things towards the end of the game but I just didn't post them on here.

The good news is this loss at Indiana may wind up being Iowa's worst loss of the season.

loess is a good poster but should have went to bed.. You state he thought like many of us? Not. Not one time has Pretenders entered my mind about what Iowa accomplished to date.. I would ask that you re-read what OP wrote, it was knee jerk or just sour grapes AT BEST and knowing loess it honestly surprised me.. Go look at who Iowa has beat to start the Big Ten season. He cherry picked two Big Ten Road losses against the 2 other teams that are tied with us at the top and called us pretenders for losing them. Really??.. Iowa has beaten Purdue x2, MSU x2 and Michigan.

Just for fun, where do you think Iowa would be in the BT right now if the Maryland and Indiana games had been scheduled into Iowa City instead of being Iowa road trips?

Just a reminder: Iowa's road games so far in the BT...Maryland,Indiana, Purdue, Michigan State, Illinois. So, we split 2-2 on the road against the teams that are actually competing for the title, with a cupcake win against the fading ILL.

Indiana played great yesterday...and we still outplayed then for a 20 minute stretch.

Oh I see, you don't get ****** after Iowa losses. After a loss you immediately reflect on how great Iowa has been all year. Well good for you, I was mad as hell and I feel like crap after an Iowa loss. But unlike loess I went to bed, which I agree with you he should have done as well.

Not jumping off the ship, but if your going to be on the #1 seed line...you better toughen up. Poor FT, again, Uthoff disappears, bench nothing, big concerns in my mind. Number 1 seeded teams do not do this in their 2 biggest games of the year.

You are missing my point. If we are going to be a number 1 seeded team we have to show the committee that we are capable of beating great teams, programs on the road. I am not saying Uthoff played miserably, I said he disappears at times when he just seems to float and be uninvolved. Poor FT shooting is simply happening at crucial times, any pundit will tell you the teams who proceed forward in the Madness make their free-throws especially in clutch situations. Fact is our bench has performed great all year, however last night NOTHING, no energy, no points, just makes us very beatable. Are these big concerns...NO, not if you want to be a #3 or #4 seed. My post was are we a #1 seeded team? A #1 team beats a non-rated team on the road...regardless of the venue...MY OPINION.
