It all will be figured out on the field.
The AP and Coaches' polls provide discussion for fans and media, but they have no bearing on the playoff or bowl placement.
Until they go 4-8, no bowl. All I hear is that ISU is finally a quality win.
What I want to know is how a 4-8 team makes it on the preseason poll.
It's a rhetorical question of course, but those inbreeders have quite literally shown nothing on a football filed in the last half decade that would indicate they're remotely close to one of the 25 best teams in the country.
Show me one reason with actual proof and other than "I think" bs that they are better than any other squad on that list.
Jesus Christ, they're 8-16 the past two years with no bowl invites...
Not proof of ranking order, but a reason with something tangible that actually happened. Other than anecdotes.I get your point, but you know that preseason polls are subjective and there is hardly ever proof to substantiate anyone outside of the top 10 perhaps.
The Sagarin rating is by far the most objective rating system based purely on objective statistics.I get your point, but you know that preseason polls are subjective and there is hardly ever proof to substantiate anyone outside of the top 10 perhaps.

Do they REALLY have no bearing on the playoffs? The playoffs are decided by a committee of people sitting in a room, and people are generally unfair and easily influenced. Most people would instantly put 8-0 Alabama at #1 over an 8-0 Purdue regardless of SoS or any other factors...just because the name on the jersey and the history.
Polls are stupid and fun, but I also don't believe they have no bearing at all on the committee...see 2017 Alabama
(I am sorta playing devils advocate here)
I wouldn’t go so far as to say that previous rankings should carry over. If Purdue were ranked say 22nd at the end of the year and Rondale Moore declared, there’s no way they’re remotely as good as before. Some players have that much of an effect. The whole preseason ranking thing is stupid.
If you finish in the top 25 at end of last season then to me that should be the next seasons pre rankings! So somehow Neb and Isu did something in the off time to jump up in ranking without playing a game?????? Ok got it.........sure!!!!!!!thing!!!!!!!
Only took the clowns 42 years to be ranked. LolIt's the first time ever that Iowa and Iowa State have both been ranked in the preseason AP Top 25.
nice synopsisThe Sagarin rating is by far the most objective rating system based purely on objective statistics.
You can see here that Nebraska finished the season 54th. Even if one didn't have faith in the ratings, 54th is far enough out that it's hard to argue.
Do they have a bunch of 5 star guys coming up? Nope.
Do they have upperclassmen with big stats playing this year? Nope.
Were their losses good loses last year indicating that they'd win most of them if played again? Nah.
I fully understand it's all lip service to generate web page clicks, but the nebraska love is all based on speculation about the next Tommie Frazier.
