Predictions for Iowa @ISU on Thursday

It all depends on Iowa. If they hit their shots and stay consistent on D, they will likely win.

I would like to see Iowa play a zone like they did against Indiana last year. They closed out on the 3 point shots and prevented them from driving all night.

79-70 Hawks.

Had lunch with my ISU friend today... told him if the Hawks can stay within 10 I'll take that as a sign that we have a pretty good shot at an upper tier finish in the B1G this year.

Ok, I don't know where this came from, but Jay Bilas tweeted it out. Pretty funny and clever really.

This game will have a couple excellent match-ups to watch. I think Uthoff is one of a handful of players in the nation who can give Niang fits. He's long enough so Niang can't post him up all night and long and quick enough that Niang can't spot up for three and then drive by. He's also going to make Georges move on defense. For some reason I think McKay v Woodbury is going to be fun to watch as well. I know McKay hopes to wear him out by running rim to rim but with really no one to back him up I think woody could have a decent game as McKay can't really give up the fouls. Guard shooting really favors the Cyclones so I think that is where we win the game. That said it's going to be close. We can't have lapses like we did Monday night. I think the Hawks keep it close but the Clones win by a final of 79-74. Hope it's a good game and no one gets hurt. The bigger season starts in Jan.

I think it comes down to how the came is called. Obviously ISU should be favored, but what little of ISU I have seen they really go with six to seven players. What could make the game close is getting Niang is foul trouble. Morris is a good point guard, but without Niang on the floor it is not the same team. Geselle,Clemmons, and Uthoff need to drive to the basket to try and draw fouls.

Half = 42 - 40, ISU, both 40%+ f/3.

Final = 85-68, ISU. Hawks go cold in 2nd and Niang fouls out Woody before 8 minute mark.

"Live by, die by; we got nothing else." - Iowa basketball motto for 2015-16.

Only chance Iowa has IMO is if they're on fire from 3 point land.

ISU has a lot of talent, plus the game is in Hilton, so I think ISU wins by double digits. Something to the tune of 85-71. Hawks keep it close in the first half but think ISU goes on a run in the 2nd to pull away.

Would love to be wrong, but just don't see it.

Maybe Woody will poke Niang in the eye.

Iowa is a deeper team than the clowns, and Iowa is a better shooting % team than the clowns. Iowa wins this one!

I can't get a read on this Iowa team yet. It feels like a matchup Iowa will have to be hot from 3 to win. And since ISU will know that and is home so that'll be tough for us to do. I think our D isn't that great and neither is our rebounding. So we'll have to put points up ourselves and if Jok isn't playing well be it not shooting good in foul trouble what have you we can be in trouble. We'll need both him and Utoff to have a big game. Not sure my confidence level in that is too high.

A) I'm still dying laughing at the UAB loss. Funniest thing Ive seen in awhile
B) for some schools (not ISU) it's still football season
C) the way college bball works, a loss means nothing
D) like a lot of iowa fans I know, i'm looking forward to the game but not heavily invested in it (see: football)
E) the game against Michigan state later this month is way bigger for iowa than this game.
F) iowa 74, iowa state 82.

I'm realistic. Iowa probably doesn't have a shot at winning tonight unless they play their best game of the season. I would love to see someone knock Niang on his ***** *** though. That would be worth it to me.

Obviously want Iowa to win, but just can't see it happening. Plus, new ISU coach will want to make a statement to the home fans and I can see them not only winning but trying to run it up. So anyone looking for a little Rose Bowl travel money should bet big on ISU only giving 7 points.

Again, hope I'm wrong, but going in with no expectations for a win.

Cyclone fan checking in. I am looking forward to a good game. I think ISU wins by double digits, but not without getting a good test first. It has been said that this Cyclone team doesn't play tough all game long and tends to run away at the end. I would agree that the Cyclones do tend to go on big runs to inflate scores toward the end of the game, but scores are scores and 20+ blowouts are 20+ blowouts. That said, the most remarkable thing that I think most of our fanbase is excited about is the increase in our defense. In previous years, if the shots weren't falling we would likely go down by double digits and claw our way back into the game (See Oklahoma, the entire B12 tournament last year). That hasn't happened or really even come close to happening this year. Most of the games we have held the lead or gone back and forth until the other team simply couldn't keep up. This team looks very VERY different on the defensive end of things.

In regards to Niang talking smack, I am sure it must be annoying to have to listen to. He hasn't said a whole lot so far this year other than that he doesn't really care for Iowa and the reason he does talk trash or blow kisses is because of the amount of heckling the Iowa fanbase does. The blown kiss was a reaction to tweets from Iowa fans. Sure he could have ignored it, but that isn't Georges and you gotta love him or hate him for it.

Like I said, I look forward to a great game. I think the biggest thing I hope for is an injury free game. I would hate to see either side lose a key player that would contribute throughout the season.

PS I won't make my way over to the fb forum, but congrats on a great fb season and good luck in January.

I cant' disagree with anything you said. I don't like Niang because he plays against us, but if the shoe were on the other foot, I would probably laugh. I have been to a couple of ISU games this year and have thought a couple of times that they didn't look great. But then they flip the switch and look unbelievable. I also agree that the effort on the defensive end has been a whole lot better this year. They need to find a little more depth if they are going to put that kind of effort in all year. It takes a lot more energy and it could catch up to them late in the season. Overall though, the team deserves the hype. They are good. Things will have to go very well for us to have a chance in this one.

Heck I didn't even realize Hawks played the clownies today, until my wife told me that last night. Isn't this game usually on a Friday??
Still in full football mode. Clown fans will probably go all ape when they beat us, but no reason to as everyone knows that will be the outcome anyway. No Iowa fan is talking any smack about this game. Shove it Clown fans.
